Meerut (UP), Jun 10 (ANI): The members of the transgender community faced heavy lathi-charge from the cops in the premises of a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district. The incident took place at Meerut's Lalkurti Police Station on Monday. Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), "Things have come to the fore, transgenders misbehaved, but force was used to control them. If force was used was more than required, probe to be conducted."

Pilgrims rush brings traffic to standstill in Uttarakhand

Deoprayag (Uttarakhand), Jun 10 (ANI): Traffic in Uttarakhand has come to standstill as large number of pilgrims is visiting Char Dham every day. This year Char Dham yatra started with the opening of portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines on May 7. Moreover, the sweltering heat in northern India has increased the inflow of tourists to various hill stations in the state. The circuit of four ancient pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand, i.e. Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are referred to as 'Char Dham yatra'.

CM Yogi Adityanath holds meeting over women security

Lucknow (UP) , June 10 (ANI): After the widespread condemnation and sparked outrage of people over Aligarh incident, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with chief secretary and senior police officials over women security in the state today.The meeting was held days after Twinkle, A 2.5-year-old girl's body was found dead close to her house in Tappal town on the outskirts of Aligarh. The police have arrested four accused who have confessed to the crime.

Farmers of JandK's Udhampur are losing produce, despite having water

Udhampur (JandK), Jun 10 (ANI): Despite having water in abundance, farmers in the mountainous region of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur are not able to irrigate their produce. The reason behind this irony is the lack of infrastructure. The residents of the region need a canal to divert water directly towards the fields. Over 500 farmers of Udhampur's Nallah Ghoran village claimed that their area was worst hit. Local farmers have alleged that they have approached the Irrigation Department several times but they turned a deaf ear towards their woes. While speaking to ANI, a farmer said, "We have water but there is no canal. If the canal is constructed, then we can irrigate our lands. Whenever we go to the concerned department, they did not listen to our complaint and ask us to come again."

New Delhi, Jun 10 (ANI): Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan met French Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean Baptiste Lemoyne in Delhi on Monday. While speaking to ANI, Jean Baptiste Lemoyne said, "President Macron and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have a strong relationship personally and that is why President Macron was happy to invite PM Modi to join the G7 leaders meeting at the end of August." He also added, "India could provide very interesting experience for the work that will be done in terms of numeric. France stands alongside India in fight against terrorism: French Foreign Affairs MoS

New Delhi, Jun 10 (ANI): Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan met French Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean Baptiste Lemoyne in Delhi on Monday. Jean Baptiste Lemoyne reaffirms support to India in fighting terrorism and terror financing. This is the first French ministerial visit after the formation of the new government. While speaking to ANI, Jean Baptiste Lemoyne on attempted break-in into Indian Air Force Rafale Project Management Team in Paris last month said, "Investigation is going on; Indian authorities would be updated when new details would be provided to us." He added, "France is very committed at international level to fight against terrorism and terror financing. We also know India is very committed and we are very happy about that."

Operation to rescue two-year-old boy continues

Sangrur (Punjab), Jun 10 (ANI): Rescue operation to save the two-year-old boy from 150-foot-borewell in Punjab's Sangrur continued on Monday also. The boy has been stuck into the borewell since 6 June. On 5 June, rescuers faced some technical issue while rescuing the boy. The child, Fatehvir, fell into the unused borewell in a field when he was playing near his house around on 6th June. The seven-inch-wide borewell was covered with a cloth and the boy accidentally stepped on it.

Bhopal rape-murder case: Police arrest accused

Bhopal (MP), June 10 (ANI): Bhopal police arrested the accused in minor girl's rape and murder case, her body was found in a drain yesterday. Assistant Superintend of Police, Akhil Patel told ANI, "We have arrested the accused, the man used to live close to the victim's house. It will be ensured that he gets punishment within a month, so that it works as a deterrent."The dead body of 8-year-old girl was found in a drain at Kamla Nagar area in Bhopal. As per the official, the girl was gone to the market to buy something and family reported the incident to the police when she didn't return. One policeman has also been suspended after the incident was reported.

Villagers forced to drink contaminated water due to scarcity in Maharashtra's Amravati

Amravati (Maharashtra), Jun 10 (ANI): People in Amravati's Melghat, who have been facing severe water crisis, are forced to go as deep as 40 feet inside wells to fetch drinking water. The ground water level has been gradually declining. People have no other option but to consume muddy and contaminated water. Water in hand pumps and wells are gradually declining."

Chennai man adopts 45 HIV positive children

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Jun 10 (ANI): 45 HIV positive children abandoned by their families have found a home in the "Shelter Trust" run by a man named Solomon Raj. Raj claims that good work gives him great satisfaction, especially when these children refer him as 'Appa'. In the shelter home, the needy are provided with every facility ranging from education, medical care, training in crafts, arts, dance and working knowledge of computers etc. Many of them have been enrolled in Class XI and Class XII and seven of them even pursuing their graduation in various streams. While speaking to ANI, Solomon said, "I was inspired to help the HIV positive children as even after 8 years into my marriage I had no child and he wanted to adopt an HIV positive child who is in need. These children are the innocent victims of someone else's fault. I've become 'appa' for 45 children. It's big responsibility to take care of all the needs of these children."

Veteran actor, playwright Girish Karnad passes away

Bengaluru (Karnataka), Jun 10 (ANI): Veteran actor, playwright and director Girish Karnad, 81 passed away on Monday morning. He was born in Maharashtra's Matheran in the year 1938. Karnad was known for his work in the field of literature and cinema, he also became a renowned face in the country after essaying the role of Swami's father in Malgudi Days TV series. He was conferred with Padma Shri in 1974 and Padma Bhushan in 1992. For his outstanding contribution towards literature, Bharatiya Jnanpith also awarded him with Jnanpith, the highest Indian literary award in 1998, four years after winning the Sahitya Academy award in 1994. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also posted a tweet expressing condolence over Karnad's demise. He wrote, "Girish Karnad will be remembered for his versatile acting across all mediums. He also spoke passionately on causes dear to him. His works will continue being popular in the years to come. Saddened by his demise. May his soul rest in peace."
