Diabetes epidemic in Asia increases risk of premature death among women, middle-aged people

New Delhi, Apr 24 (ANI): Diabetes epidemic is underway in Asia, which has increased the risk of premature death especially among women and middle-aged people, a study revealed. The research published in JAMA Network Open reported that there is an urgent need to implement diabetes management programmers tailored to the Asian population. "We found that patients with diabetes are at a substantially elevated risk of premature death, and the risk associated with diabetes is much higher than that reported by most previous studies conducted in the United States and Europe," said the study's corresponding author, Wei Zheng. China and India have the highest diabetes burdens in the world.

Heavy rainfall predicted over TN, Puducherry: IMD

Chennai, Apr 24 (ANI): Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall beginning early next week, according to the weather department. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu between Tuesday and Friday, it said. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Chennai, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal and move towards the coastal region in Tamil Nadu intensifying into a storm. "A low-pressure area is very likely to develop over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining South-West Bay of Bengal around 25 April. It is very likely to intensify into a depression by 27 April and move towards Tamil Nadu coast and intensify into a cyclonic storm by 29 April," said Met department official. Man allegedly dies in police custody in MP's Indore, mother also beaten up

Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Apr 24 (ANI): In a purported judicial malpractice, a man, accused in a theft case, has allegedly died in police custody in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. The incident was revealed when the deceased fell ill inside the police station and was transported to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. The deceased's mother was also admitted to hospital after she too was allegedly beaten. Police has suspended the station in-charge and has ordered judicial inquiry for the case.

Bhopa (MP), Apr 24 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday felicitated Amit Mali, the youth from Madhya Pradesh who readily answered Congress leader Digvijaya Singh's query on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in the accounts of citizens. Speaking to ANI after being felicitated, Mali said, "He (Digvijaya Singh) had asked who all got Rs 15 lakh in their accounts, so I raised my hand. I went to the stage and told him about the surgical strikes, he made me step down from the stage. Nobody misbehaved with me afterward."Digvijaya, while addressing Congress supporters on Monday, had asked if they got Rs. 15 lakh from Narendra Modi as promised. Twitter now boasts 330 million monthly active users amidst 'healthy platform' plans

New Delhi, Apr 24 (ANI): Twitter's Q1 2019 earnings report is here and it seems the company's attempts at making it a healthier conversation platform are paying off.Twitter recorded average monetizable daily active usage (mDAU) for the quarter at 134 million, up 11 per cent year-over-year. The average monthly active users (MAU) in Q1 were recorded at 330 million, an increase of 9 million quarter-over-quarter, Twitter said in its report.In terms of profitability, Twitter exceeded expectations with an operating income of USD 94 million and a margin of 12 per cent. The revenue went up 18 per cent, with a particular response in the US.Twitter said that ensuring and maintaining the platform's health remains the top priority for Q2, 2019. The aim remains to provide users with credible information and make Twitter a safe platform to engage in conversations.

Rehana becomes first woman from JandK's Poonch district to clear civil services exam
