Jammu/Delhi, Apr 20 (ANI): Accelerating pace COVID-19 vaccination from May 1, Government of India on April 19 announced that everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible to get vaccinated. Locals in Jammu and Delhi lauded government's initiative and termed it a "positive step." One of the locals in Jammu said, "I think if somebody is good enough to vote, he/she is eligible to get inoculated also." Another local in Delhi said, "According to the present condition, everyone should get vaccinated children too."

DRDO reopens Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID hospital

New Delhi, Apr 20 (ANI): Amid massive surge in COVID-19 cases in national capital, Defence Research and Development Organisation spokesperson Narendra Kumar Arya informed that functioning of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID hospital has been resumed, and another 250 beds will be added to the facility by April 22. Narendra Kumar Arya said, "DRDO has resumed the functioning of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID hospital. It took 6 days to establish it again. All the beds have been filled here and 250 beds will be added by April 22. All these beds are ICU beds with ventilator facility. The air conditioning in the hospital is according to WHO standard. This hospital has all the facility which a good hospital has."

Migrants at Ghaziabad border pursue journey on foot amid 1-week lockdown

Ghaziabad (UP), Apr 20 (ANI): Amid fear of rising COVID-19 cases and possibility of lockdown extension, migrant workers are heading to their hometowns. In order to avoid the hardships faced during the previous nationwide lockdown, migrant workers are not willing to take the risk of staying back. Migrants at Ghaziabad border started their journey, to reach their native places, during wee hours of April 20 on foot. One of the migrants said, "There's no work for us, and no landlord or government will help us during lockdown. That's why we're leaving. If there's further lockdown, we won't be able to survive." One-week lockdown was announced in Delhi by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on April 19 to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

Migrants, residing in Delhi head home amid week-long lockdown

New Delhi, Apr 20 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal announced a week-long lockdown due to prevailing COVID-19 situation in the national capital starting from 10 pm, April 19 to 5 am April 26. CM Kejriwal had urged migrants to not leave Delhi. He said, "It's a short lockdown, don't leave Delhi."Amid the rising fear, migrants have started to return to their native places. On the arrangements made by the government, one of the migrant workers said, "I am going to Agra, no one is giving assistance therefore I am walking only. No arrangements have been made, we are walking towards our home, is this the arrangement." Migrants thronged the Anand Vihar Terminal in large numbers. COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing norms were flouted at the site. The national capital, on April 19, reported over 23,000 fresh COVID cases.

New Delhi, Apr 20 (ANI): Amid fear of rising COVID-19 cases and possibility of lockdown extension, Migrant workers thronged Delhi's Anand Vihar Bus Terminal. Migrants waited for buses at the terminal during wee hours of April 20. Migrants expressed their disappointment on the amount charged by the busses and said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should have given some time before announcing lockdown. "We are daily wagers, CM should have given us some time before announcing it. It takes us Rs 200 to reach home, but they're charging Rs 3,000-4,000 now, how will we go home?," they asked.

"Last year, that changed. Without provocation, China brought enormous force to the border. You can't disrupt peace and tranquility at border and carry on with rest of relationship... If this relationship is to progress, I must have a return to peace and tranquility on border," the minister added. "For last 40 years, we have had peace and tranquility on the border. I'm not suggesting that we solved the boundary dispute. But rest of our relationship got built of an assumption that neither would use force or threaten another," he said.

Didn't know need to wear mask in car: Delhi couple after being arrested for misbehaving with cops

New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): Delhi couple, who misbehaved with Delhi Police over not wearing face mask in the car yesterday (April 18), has been arrested by the police. The couple argued with police when cops stopped them for not wearing face mask in the car. While speaking to ANI, the couple gave the clarifications for not wearing the masks. "We were in the car, and we thought the mask was not required inside the car. It is important to wear the mask," said Pankaj Dutta, COVID norms violator to ANI. "I feel suffocation and breathing problems when I wear mask. Logically, I thought that it was not needed in the car as I was with my husband only. My opinion is that mask must be worn at public places," said Abha Yadav, COVID norms violator to ANI. The couple have been booked under multiple sections of Delhi Disaster Mgmt Act. The incident took place in Daryaganj area during weekend curfew.

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan visits AIIMS Trauma Centre

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma centre on April 16 and announced that 70 more beds will be added to Trauma Centre. "We have decided to add 70 more beds at the AIIMS Trauma Centre and 100 more beds at the National Cancer Institute, Jhajjar. I am sure we will be able to overcome the challenges we are facing due to surge in COVID19 cases now," the Minister said. "I have visited COVID wards in the Trauma Centre here with the Director and other doctors and met COVID patients individually. Most of them are in a recovery state. The main motive behind the visit is to check the bed availability and to increase according to the need. There are 266 COVID beds available in AIIMS till date, 253 are occupied with patients," he added.
