Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Tuesday hinted at rolling out 5G telecom services in the second half of 2021 and said policy steps are needed to accelerate the early rollout of ultra-high-speed 5G services that are affordable and available everywhere. SpaceX launched a newer, bigger version of its Dragon supply ship to the International Space Station on Sunday, marking the first time the company has two capsules aloft at the same time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the construction of Phase-1 of the Agra Metro project via video conferencing. The Agra Metro project comprises two corridors with a total length of 29.4 km and will connect major tourist attractions like Taj Mahal and Agra Fort with railway stations and bus stands. The project will benefit Agra's population of 2.6 million and also cater to more than 6 million tourists who visit the historic city every year. It will provide an environment-friendly mass rapid transit system to Agra, an official statement said. The estimated cost of the construction of the project is Rs 8,379.62 crore and it will be completed in five years, it said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for a new Parliament building on December 10. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the invitation will be extended to all political parties. While some would attend physically and others would attend virtually, Birla said, while adding that the ceremony would follow Covid-related guidelines. Dharampal Gulati, famously known as 'MDH Dadaji' for repeated appearance in his spice brand's television ads, died on December 3. He started his spices business journey as a nondescript shack in Delhi's Karol Bagh after selling his tonga, and went on, at the age of 94, to becoming the highest-paid CEO in the country's FMCG sector. Gulati, also known as the Spice King, was born in Sialkot (now in Pakistan) on March 27, 1923, and moved to India after Partition and set up his business in Delhi. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has left interest rates unchanged for a third straight meeting as inflation stayed stubbornly high, and said the economy was recuperating fast and would return to positive growth in the current quarter itself. The benchmark repurchase rate will be maintained at 4 per cent, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said. The six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) retained its accommodative stance, signaling its intentions to cut interest rates whenever the situation eases. A spike in consumer prices forced RBI to pause after cutting rates by 115 basis points this year. The central bank, which had previously expected the economy to shrink 9.5 per cent in the year to March, revised its forecast after a shallower-than-expected decline in the gross domestic product (GDP) in the July-September quarter.
AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria has pinned his hopes on the five Covid-19 vaccine candidates which are in advanced stages of clinical trial in India, stating they are logistically feasible for distribution in both urban and rural areas. The Centre has said there may not be a need to vaccinate the country's entire population against Covid-19 if a critical mass of people are given a shot to break the chain of virus transmission, and made it clear it had never spoken about inoculating everyone.
