Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Tahir Ahmad Bhat neutralized in Doda encounter: IGP Jammu

Jammu, May 17 (ANI): The security forces neutralized terrorist Tahir Ahmad Bhat in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda on May 17. Bhat was controlling terror activities in the area after the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Haroon. Haroon was killed by security forces in January 2020. "Last night, we got information about presence of terrorist Tahir Ahmad Bhat in Khotra village of Doda. We were on lookout for this terrorist since January 2020 when we killed Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist Haroon. After Haroon, Bhat was controlling terror activities here," said the Inspector General of Police of Jammu, Mukesh Singh while addressing the press conference.

Cyclone 'Amphan' likely to intensify into severe cyclonic storm in Odisha's Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), May 17 (ANI): The cyclone 'Amphan' is likely to intensify into very severe cyclonic storm in next 12 hours, according to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre. "In the next 12 hours, Cyclone 'Amphan' is likely to intensify. Fishermen advised not to venture into sea and return to coast till night. From tomorrow no fishermen will be allowed," said Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Director, HR Biswas. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur after 24 hours in the coast area.

140 stranded Afghan nationals to return home

Pune (Maharashtra), May 17 (ANI): As many as 140 Afghan nationals to return home on May 17 from a special flight for Kabul from Pune airport. Stranded Afghan nationals included cadets at the National Defence Academy (NDA). A special flight was arranged by Afghan government to take their citizens back home. These Afghan nationals were stuck in India during the time of lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Vande Bharat Mission: 8-months pregnant woman thanks Indian govt for her repatriation

Muscat (Oman), May 17 (ANI): Under India's Vande Bharat Mission to bring back stranded Indians, several stranded passengers departed from Oman to return home on May 17. Flight IX 554 departed for Trivandrum with total 183 Indians and 1 mortal remains. Passengers include urgent medical cases, workers, stranded visitors and people having family emergencies. Anjali, an 8-months pregnant woman who is returning from Muscat said, "I would like to thank the government of India for extending help to us at this time".

Doda encounter: Security forces neutralize 1 terrorist

Borrowing limit of states increased from 3% to 5% of GSDP: FM Sitharaman

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 17 while announcing fifth and final tranche of stimulus package, said Centre has decided to increase borrowing limit of states from 3 per cent to 5 per cent of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2020-21. She said, "States have so far borrowed only 14 per cent of the limit which is authorised to them. 86 per cent of the limit remains unutilised. Centre has decided to increase borrowing limit of states from 3 per cent to 5 per cent of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2020-21."

FM Sitharaman gives break-up of Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 17 announced the details of all five tranches under stimulus package of Rs 20 lakh crore announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vande Bharat Mission: Air India's special flight arrives in Hyderabad from Chicago

Migrant workers create ruckus in Saharanpur, demand special trains

Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), May 17 (ANI): Migrant workers gathered on Saharanpur-Ambala highway in large numbers on May 17. They created ruckus at the highway and demanded a special train to return to Bihar. Police officials and Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed at the site in order to maintain the law and order situation in Saharanpur. There are total 4057 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 53,035 with 2752 deaths in India. While speaking to ANI, the Divisional Commissioner of Saharanpur, Sanjay Kumar said, "We are sending them by buses till Bihar border. We are also coordinating with different district authorities there for their return."

FM Sitharaman gives beneficiary statistics under PM Garib Kalyan package

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday while unveiling the last and final tranche of the Rs 20 lakh crore COVID-19 economic package, announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 12, announced figures of people benefitted through different schemes under PM Garib Kalyan package. She said, "One-time transfer of Rs 2,000 has reached 8.19 crore farmers, total amount Rs 16,394 crore. NSAP beneficiaries got Rs 1,405 crore in first instalment and Rs 1,402 crore in second instalment, target of Rs 3,000 crore nearly achieved." "20 crore Jan Dhan account holding women got Rs 10,025 crores. 2.2 crore building and construction workers got Rs 3,950 crores. 6.81 crore people got free LPG cylinders and12 lakh EPFO holders got online withdrawal of advance," she added.

Dehradun administration using grassroot approach for surveillance in containment zones

Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), May 17 (ANI): Dehradun district administration is doing community surveillance with the help grassroot workers amid coronavirus pandemic. Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers, Anganwadi workers and government teachers are deputed to conduct daily door-to-door health surveillance of citizens in COVID-19 containment zones. They are conducting surveillance in Shiva Enclave and Awas Vikas colony of Uttarakhand's Rishikesh. While speaking to ANI, the District Magistrate of Dehradun, Dr Ashish Kumar Srivastava said, "The health status of residents of containment areas is monitored regularly. During house-to-house survey, we see if anyone has symptoms of cough, fever, etc. and their travel history. This helps us analyze their health status better." There are total 82 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Uttarakhand. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 53,035 with 2752 deaths in India.

Passengers coming from Ahmedabad thank Railways for safe journey
