Sukma (Chhattisgarh), Jan 20 (ANI): Locals of a Naxal-affected village build road for themselves in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district. They build road for better connectivity of the area. Locals of Palamadgu village in Sukma district are still seeking for development and basic amenities in their nearby vicinity. While speaking to ANI, the Deputy Collector (DC) of Sukma Chandan Kumar said, "The road construction work is underway under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA)." "But it is good if villagers are contributing in development work," DC added.

South India gets first squadron of Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jets

Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu), Jan 20 (ANI): South India got its first squadron of Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jets on January 20. Water salute was also given to the SU-30MKI fighter aircraft at Thanjavur air base in Tamil Nadu. The 222 Squadron that will house the Sukhoi-30 MKIs is also known as the 'Tigersharks'. IAF Chief, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said that the decision to deploy the Su-30 MKI at Thanjavur was taken due to its strategic location. The Su-30 MKI inducted here is equipped with special weapon (BrahMos supersonic cruise missile), the IAF Chief further said. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat, was also present at the press conference.

'Saksham Cycle Day-2020' kicks off in Agartala

Agartala (Tripura), Jan 20 (ANI): More than 1000 cyclists participated in 'Saksham Cycle Day-2020' event in Tripura's Agartala on January 19. The Cyclothon was organised by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to create awareness against the menace of pollution. Main aim was to create culture of cycling among the people. Event was inaugurated by Deputy CM of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma and other officials of ONGC, GAIL and TNGCL. Cyclothon started from 8:00 am from Swami Vivekananda Stadium. 'Saksham Cycle Day-2020' is a campaign flagship program of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and Oil public sector undertakings under the guidance of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas which aims to add values to the various efforts being made in the country for saving fuel.

All convicts must be executed on Feb 01: Nirbhaya's mother on fresh 'juvenile' petition

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Reacting to the special leave petition (SLP) filed by one of the convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi said that if all the accused committed the crime; they all should be punished equally and demanded that all the convicts must be executed on February 01. "This is our law that has given freedom to them to commit such crimes and then when it comes to punishment, juvenile is exempted," said Asha Devi. "It is just a tactic to delay the execution. His petition was cancelled in 2013 by SC. Review petition was also dismissed by the court. He's doing it just to waste time. But all the convicts must be executed on 1 Feb only. This is not just about Nirbhaya but thousands of girls who are fighting for their justice," she added further. Convict Pawan Gupta filed a SLP in the Supreme Court, claiming he was a juvenile at the time of the crime, and should be treated as such.

Amaravati (AP), Jan 20 (ANI): Ahead of special assembly session over proposed three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, Tourism Minister MS Rao said that his party wants to de-centralise development and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is agitating against the government's proposal only for political gains. "The CM is going to develop all the regions in the state in a uniform way, all 13 districts and three regions are important to us. We want to de-centralise development. N Chandrababu Naidu is doing agitations only for political gains," said Rao. Naidu, who is vehemently opposing the three-capital proposal, said the suppression of public voice is undemocratic and against the constitution as several of his party leaders including JAC leaders have been put under house arrest.

Football tournament organised in memory of Manipur's Maharaja

Imphal (Manipur), Jan 20: The 62nd 'Sir Churachand Singh KCSI-CBE Memorial Invitation Football Tournament' was organised in Manipur's Imphal. The final match of the event was played on January 19 between Neroca FC and SSU Singjamei. Neroca FC lifted the champion title of the event. They were awarded with cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a gold plated trophy, while SSU Singjamei received Rs 2.5 lakh. Total 32 teams participated in the football tournament which started on December 3, 2019. The event took place at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal. This event is played in the memory of Late Maharaja of Manipur Sir Churachand Singh.

Vadodara witnesses action-packed racing, freestyle motocross

Vadodara (Gujarat), Jan 20 (ANI): The first edition of 'Vadodara Invitational Supercross' 2020 event was organised on January 19. It is for the first time in Gujarat that international riders featured in night supercross. Vadodara Invitational Supercross (VIS) racing and freestyle motocross event featured 28 riders from various countries. The international riders from Russia, South Africa, America, Germany and Scotland set the tracks on fire along with the top Indian racers. Seven teams participated in the event which took place at Venus ground in Vadodara. Bhupinder Hooda says states can't say no to CAA, but wants law's legality tested

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Congress leader and former Haryana CM, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Citizenship (Amendment) Act asserted that no state can deny to any law or act if passed by Parliament. "Once a law or act is passed by the Parliament, I think that the constitutional view is that, any state can't and should not say no but this has to be legally examined," said Bhupinder Singh. Nation-wide protests have strengthened since implementation of CAA in December 2019. According to the present government, the amended act promises to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from three neighbouring countries i.e., Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
