Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Dec 28 (ANI): Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram led a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Thiruvananthapuram on December 28. Addressing a rally at the event, he said, "Mr. Amit Shah must go back and listen to the debates in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He did not answer a single question and now he is challenging Mr Rahul Gandhi for a debate on it. Everything is wrong about this law."

Pakistan Army targets residential areas in Kathua

Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 28 (ANI): Residential areas of border village in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district was targeted by Pakistani rangers during wee hours of December 28. At least three houses were damaged in heavy mortar shellings. Indian Army gave befitting reply to Pakistan's unprovoked firing. Residents of border villages are facing acute problems since past few months as Pakistan continues to violate ceasefire. Speaking to ANI, a local said, "The damage continues to happen (due to mortar shelling). We can't even step out during the firing. Even our under-construction house was badly damaged during one of the mortar shellings."

TN Thowheed Jamath holds anti-CAA rally towards Governor"s residence in Chennai

Chennai, Dec 28 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath held a protest rally towards Governor Banwarilal Purohit"s residence on December 28 in Chennai. They are protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the proposed NRC. Large number of demonstrators took part in the anti-CAA rally. Nation-wide protests have intensified after implementation of the new Citizenship Act. The new Citizenship Act gives Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from three neighbouring countries i.e., Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Situation was extremely volatile: Meerut ADGP on cop telling protestors to 'go to Pak' in viral video

Meerut (UP), Dec 28 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on December 28, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Meerut Zone, Prashant Kumar, spoke on viral video of Meerut Superintendent of Police (SP), Akhilesh Narayan Singh, during Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests. He said, "Stones were being pelted, anti-India and pro-neighbouring country slogans were being raised there. Situation was very tense. Popular Front of India (PFI) pamphlets were being distributed. This was despite all appeals, including by religious leaders." "Yes, if situation was normal then choice of words could have been better, but that day the situation was extremely volatile, our officers showed a lot of restraint, there was no firing by Police," ADG added. On December 20, Meerut SP was caught on camera telling protesters to go to Pakistan.

Chidambaram said, "DGP and Army General are being asked to support government, it's a shame. Let me appeal to Genaral Rawat, you head the Army and mind your business. It's not business of Army to tell politicians what we should do, just as it's not our business to tell you how to fight a war."

He wanted to meet Priyanka Gandhi. Speaking to ANI, Gurmeet Singh, the man who breached Priyankah's security said, "I was a part of youth Congress, but right now I am not at any post. I met Priyanka ji, and she said I'll get a post next time. I had no appointment with her and I am extremely sorry for breaching the security."

Gods adorned in woollen clothes as North India reels under cold wave

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Dec 28 (ANI): As the mercury dropped in northern and central India, arrangements were made to beat the winter chill for deities. Gods at Sankat Mochan Temple in Bhopal were adorned in woollen clothes to the keep the cold wave at bay. Lord Hanuman, Lord Rama, Sita, Lord Ganesha and many other divine figures were covered in colourful woollen drape. Bhopal recorded minimum temperature of 5.3 C on December 27.

Locals in UP flock to tea stalls as cold wave intensifies

Moradabad (UP)/ Varanasi (UP), Dec 28 (ANI): Dense fog engulfed several areas of Uttar Pradesh on December 28. Commuters faced problems due to low visibility. Speaking to ANI, a bus driver in Moradabad said, "Cold has increased to a level; we are facing problems due to low visibility and driving just with an idea." Locals in Moradabad flocked to tea stalls in order to grasp heat. People were also seen setting up bonfire as cold wave intensified in Varanasi. Delhi records its lowest temperature of season at 1.7 degrees

New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): The minimum temperature of Delhi was further dropped to record its chilliest day at 1.7 degrees Celsius on December 28. The minimum temperature was recorded at Lodhi road. Temperature has dipped to several degrees in the national capital. The cold waves have intensified while fog canopied parts of the city. Temperatures were 2.4 and 3.1 degrees at Safdurjung Enclave and Palam, respectively. Chilly weather is expected to continue in Delhi-NCR this week.

Food festival organised in Srinagar to aware locals of country-wide cuisines

Srinagar (J and K), Dec 28 (ANI): A six-month-long food festival is underway in Srinagar to make the locals aware of country's different cuisines. Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in Srinagar organised the food festival under the banner of "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat". Started in November this year, it will continue till April 2020. It is being organised in collaboration with the Tourism Ministry of India. The varieties of foods belonging to different states of the country are displayed in the food festival.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi hoisted tricolour at party office. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reached there to celebrate party's Foundation Day. Congress party traced its foundation to December 28, 1885. The first Congress session was held then in Bombay. Former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and senior Congress leaders including Motilal Vora, AK Antony also arrived at the party headquarters to celebrate the day.

IED blast in Manipur's Imphal

Imphal (Manipur), Dec 28 (ANI): An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast occurred in Manipur's Imphal on December 28. The blast took place at Nagari area in Imphal around 05:00 am. No casuality or injury has been reported yet. The team of Bomb Disposal Squad is examining the spot. The blast site is just about 800 metres away from City Police Station. More details are awaited.

2 dead, 1 missing in Mumbai factory fire

Mumbai, Dec 28 (ANI): Two persons, including a woman, have died while one person is missing after a fire broke out at a factory in Mumbai's Ghatkopar.
