Surat girl wins gold medals in world powerlifting championships

Surat (Gujarat), Dec 28 (ANI): Meet Roma Shah from Gujarat and a computer engineering student who won gold medals in power lifting. Roma participated in 'World Raw Powerlifting Federation' (WRPF) 2019 held at Moscow. She bagged 2 gold and 2 silver medals this year and it was her third appearance in 2019. She has won a total of 8 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the past three years for the country. Speaking to ANI, Roma Shah said, "I am playing on International level for past three years. I was the only female participant from India and over 22 countries have participated in the championships."

BJP takes out rally to support CAA in Assam's Morigaon

Morigaon (Assam), Dec 28 (ANI): A mass rally was organised by the BJP to support Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Assam's Morigaon on December 27. BJP workers led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took out the four-km rally. The new Citizenship Act gives Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from three neighbouring countries i.e., Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

People shiver after Delhi records coldest morning of 2019

New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): Temperature in Delhi dropped to less than 3 Degree Celsius in early morning of December 28. Homeless took refuge in night shelters in harsh weather. Temperature of 2.4 Digree recorded in Delhi at 6:10 am, according to IMD. Delhiites also set up bonfires to keep themselves warm. Chilly weather is expected to continue in Delhi-NCR this week.

You can no longer use Messenger without Facebook account

New Delhi, Dec (ANI): Facebook has removed the ability to use Messenger without an account on the social networking giant. Earlier, new users were able to access Messenger or Messenger Lite app using their phone number instead of a Facebook account. With the new update, users will require to have a Facebook account to chat with friends using Messenger, VentureBeat notes. The latest change precedes the company's plan of unifying the technical infrastructure of all its services including WhatsApp and Instagram.

Scientists find Tuberculosis vaccine lowers rate of Alzheimer's in cancer patients

New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): Currently, Alzheimer's affects one-in-ten adults over the age of 65, number that is expected to triple by 2030. The need to find a cure is great. In the backdrop of the following facts, researchers have developed a TB vaccine that lowers rates of Alzheimer's disease in cancer patients. Now there may be a glimmer of hope. A research team headed by Herve Bercovier, Charles Greenblatt and Benjamin Klein at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU)'s Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics has discovered that the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine, originally developed for tuberculosis and commonly used to treat bladder cancer, may also be an effective treatment to prevent Alzheimer's. The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Internet services to resume in JandK soon: Ram Madhav

Jammu, Dec 28 (ANI): National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ram Madhav said that the internet services will soon be resumed in Jammu region and Kashmir valley as situation becomes 'favourable'. Internet services have resumed in Kargil from today (December 27). However, while talking on house arrested leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, BJP leader Ram Madhav said, "Four months ago, a large number of people were put under preventive detention. But, today, only 30-32 prominent leaders are under preventive detention and in total the number is less than 100."

Public comments invited for mandating BS-VI level emission norms for quadricycles

New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has invited suggestions and comments for the proposed amendment of Rule 115 to mandate BS-VI level emission norms for quadricycle from April 1 next year. A quadricycle is a four-wheeler, which is smaller and lighter than passenger car. The present emission norms for quadricycle are Bharat Stage IV. The proposed emission limits in BS-VI are in line with Euro 5 mass emission guidelines which will be applicable from January 01, 2020, in Europe. Various testing, including those related to durability, will be as per Europe quadricycle norms. Threshold limits for emission pollutants, conformity of production frequency and sampling plan have been proposed. The government is gathering comments and suggestions on the draft notification before finalising it. To tackle vehicular pollution, the government has asked automobile companies to upgrade to BS-VI emission norms April 2020 onwards.

LT Foods inaugurates manufacturing facility at Sonepat

New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): Daawat Kameda India Pvt Ltd, 51:49 joint venture between LT Foods and Kameda Seika of Japan, inaugurated a new manufacturing facility at Sonepat on Friday. LT Foods is a leading rice-based food company with global brands of Basmati like Daawat and Royal, and other specialty rice, organic foods, and rice-based convenience products. Kameda Seika, a Japanese snack food major, had formed the joint venture in 2017 to manufacture rice-based premium snacks in India. Based on changing consumer needs, preferences and demand for healthy snacks, Kameda Seika ventured into the premium snacks category with its rice-based snacks 'Kari Kari.' After the test launch in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore across Modern Trade Stores, the joint venture company will now manufacture these rice-based snacks India at the new facility in Sonepat.
