"What is happening in Kashmir must be an eye-opener for every citizen of this country. By passing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) they have plunged the whole country. There is a civil war like situation currently," he added.
Varanasi (UP), Dec 16 (ANI): With the temperature going down steadily, a thick layer of fog canopied the historic city Varanasi. People are setting up bonfires on road sides to get relief from chilly winters. The locals are facing problem in doing their day to day activity. Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Dec 16 (ANI): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu on December 16 led a unique 'walking backwards' protest in Amaravati against YSRCP government, alleging the ruling party of pushing development work in the state backwards. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been accused of reversing development work in the state. Naidu, who served as Chief Minister of the state until this year's assembly polls, failed in getting re-elected after the elections which were held simultaneously with the general elections.
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Dec 16 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan protested against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Thiruvananthapuram on December 16. Leader of Opposition in the assembly Ramesh Chennithala also joined him in the protest. President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on December 13 which will give Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees who faced persecution in three neighbouring countries- Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec 16 (ANI): Various Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) arrived to attend Maharashtra Assembly's winter session in Nagpur on December 16. They were seen wearing 'I am Savarkar' caps as a mark of protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remark against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Former chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis also arrived to attend the winter session. He was also seen wearing 'I am Savarkar' caps. The former Congress chief on December 14 had said his name is not 'Rahul Savarkar' and will not apologise for his 'rape in India' remark.
New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Union Minister for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, held pre-budget consultations with stakeholder groups from various fields including start-ups, fintech and digital on December 16. Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur, was also present in the meeting. The consultation meeting was held in connection with the forthcoming Union Budget 2020-21.
Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 16 (ANI): Following the clash between students and police at Jamia Millia Islamia university in Delhi, local police in neighbouring Noida have been put on alert to mitigate any toward incident. GautamBuddha Nagar SSP Vaibhav Krishna said, "We have put entire Noida Police on alert. Additional QRT teams have been formed. The forces have been mobilised. We will encounter any unpredictable situation deftly." Students of the central university were protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act after which police personnel were deployed outside the university to maintain law and order. However, the protest turned violent after clash between students and police.
Kolkata, Dec 16 (ANI): The Army officials celebrated 'Vijay Diwas' at Eastern Command in Kolkata on Dec 16. They paid floral tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Indo-Pak 1971 war. 'Vijay Diwas' is celebrated to commemorate India's victory in the 1971 war. The war was fought for liberation of Bangladesh. The war resulted in surrender of Pakistani Army and subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh.
New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): A student of Jamia Millia Islamia University removed his shirt and sat at the gate of university on December 16, demanding action against Delhi Police which was accused by students of violent crackdown at the university. During midnight, the protest was carried outside Delhi Police Headquarters against their action at Jamia Millia Islamia University. He demanded action against Delhi police following yesterday's incident. On the other side, the students have started leaving from University as it will be closed till January 05.
Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Dec 16 (ANI): A fire broke out in a super market in Tamil Nadu's Madurai on December 16. At least 20 fire tenders reached the spot. The incident took place in Narayanapuram area of Madurai. Later, more than 50 workers doused off the fire. Items worth Rs 5 crore are said to be burnt during the incident. He informed that winter vacations have been declared in view of the current situation. "The situation in the campus is tensed, some boys and anti-socials elements came and pelted stones, so we have requested police to take action to control the situation," said the registrar. "In view of the current situation, we have declared winter vacations today onwards. University will reopen on January 5 and examinations will be held after that," he further added. New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa informed that the detained students have been released from Kalkaji and New Friends Colony police stations. Earlier, Delhi Minorities Commission had issued an emergency order to the SHO Kalkaji Police Station to release the injured students of Jamia Millia Islamia University or to take them without any delay for treatment to a hospital. The midnight protest carried outside Delhi Police Headquarters was called off by students.
New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Professor Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia narrated the incident that took place in the university and asserted that the police entered the campus without permission. Speaking to ANI, Najma Akhtar said, "Students of Jamia didn't give call for today's protest. I've been told that a call was given from colonies nearby Jamia to march towards Jullena. They clashed with police and got inside campus after breaking gate of the University." "Police couldn't differentiate between the protesters and students sitting in the library. Many students and staff were injured. There was so much ruckus that police couldn't take permission," she further added.

New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Researchers have found that over-eating could be controlled through a brain circuit linked to feasting. The state of impulsivity has been linked to eating disorders that can lead to threats like that of obesity, which later can have several psychiatric disorders including drug addiction. A study on this can possibly make scientists develop certain therapeutics to address the issue of over-eating. A team that includes a faculty member at the University of Georgia has now identified a specific circuit in the brain that alters food impulsivity. The team's findings were published recently in the journal Nature Communications. Emily Noble, an assistant professor in the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences who served as lead author on the paper said: "There is underlying physiology in your brain that is regulating your capacity to say no to. In experimental models, you can activate that circuitry and get a specific behavioural response." The study noticed that
