Ludhiana (Punjab), Nov 04 (ANI): The stubble burning continued in Punjab's Ludhiana despite having massive level of air pollution in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). Even after state government's ban, farmers burnt crops in Ludhiana on November 04. Farmers continued burning stubble in Kotmana village of Ludhiana. Issue of stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana has become a major cause of air pollution not only for their states but also for Delhi-NCR region. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. Earlier, farmers who were identified for burning stubbles had been sent legal notices to stop the practice.
New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Vijay Goel left from his house in an odd numbered car in order to protest against odd-even scheme in the national capital on November 04. Later, he has been issued a challan for violation of the odd-even scheme. The odd-even scheme is currently in operation in Delhi. In order to curb air pollution, the Arvind Kejriwal led-government has announced the implementation of the odd-even scheme from November 04-15. While speaking to media, Vijay Goel said, "This scheme is just a gimmick, they (Delhi Government) themselves say pollution is due to stubble burning and then how does this scheme help? I am ready to pay the fine for violation."
Pune (Maharashtra), Nov 04 (ANI): Former union home secretary and author Madhav Godbole has written a book on the demolition of Babri Masjid. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Godbole talked about former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's role in the aftermaths of Babri Masjid demolition. He said, "If Rajiv Gandhi had acted, a solution could have been found because political positions had not fortified on both sides, there was a possibility of give and take and a solution could have been acceptable." He further said, "Rajiv Gandhi went to extent of opening locks of Babri masjid and permitted 'shilaanyaas', the ceremony for laying the foundation stone of temple and that was done during his time as Prime Minsiter, therefore I have called him 2nd Kar Sevak of the movement, first was the District Magistrate who allowed all this to begin."

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Godbole dedicated his books to all the unsung heroes of home secretary who had toiled for weeks to gather complete secrecy of demolition. He said, "We had made a proposal to invoke Article 355, by which central forces could have been sent to Uttar Pradesh to protect the mosque, and then impose President's rule." He further said, "I have dedicated my book to all the unsung heroes of home secretary who had toiled for weeks to gather complete secrecy. The whole success of demolition plan was its secrecy." Godbole said, "We had made a huge contingency plan because state government was not going to be cooperative. Narasimha Rao (Prime Minister in 1992) was doubtful if he had powers under the constitution to impose President's rule in this situation."
Chandigarh, Nov 04 (ANI): Stubble burning continues in Punjab and Haryana despite air quality dips to 'severe' category. Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar said that several steps have been taken to curb the pollution. He said, "Government of Haryana, Administration and farmers are continuously supporting. They are doing their part and because of that a lot of improvement has happened. We will take further steps to improve the situation and to save the environment and to curb the pollution. We are continuously working towards it and will do it future as well." He further said, "Save Environment, save future."
New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that he is confident that the government will be formed soon in Maharashtra. He said, "I don't want to comment on anything anyone is saying regarding the government formation. All I want to say is that the govt will be formed soon, I am confident." We have enforced the odd-even and because of which today around 15 lakh cars won't be seen on the road and that will definitely contribute to curb the pollution. Everybody is supporting the movement and I would like to congratulate to the people of Delhi for their support. We fought against dengue successfully and we will fight back the issue of pollution as well. "

One of the commuters said, "Definitely it (Odd-Even scheme) will make a difference. But it would be better if the government takes effective measures to stop the stubble burning. Meanwhile, Traffic police fined another driver near ITO while driver said he was not aware of the scheme. The driver of the vehicle, Shubham said, "I live in Noida, I had come for some work last night, I was not aware of the fact that Odd-Even scheme is coming into effect from today onwards." New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): The air quality of national capital took a hit due to a combination of firecracker emissions, stubble burning and unfavourable meteorological conditions in past few weeks. A thick layer of smog blankets the area of Rajpath in Delhi on November 04. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in 'severe' category. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. As per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the AQI in ITO area is at 434 which reflects 'severe' category. Higher value of AQI indicates greater level of air pollution and health concern. Kharagpur (West Bengal), Nov 04 (ANI): The researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur have developed a technology to source electricity from clothes drying in open space. The power which comes from electricity is changing lives of rural community. While speaking to ANI, the Professor of IIT Kharagpur, Suman Chakraborty said, "Clothes are made of cellulose fibers which have charge in their walls. If you immerse a piece of cloth in salt solution and it will flow through fibers and ionise. It generates a continuous voltage. If connected to external register and it can generate small power." "We have up-scaled this mechanism of generation of power by taking our technology to 'Dhobi Ghat' where washermen dry clothes. This power may not be good enough for large scale application but is good enough to change lives of rural community at large," professor added.
