Watch: Over 15,000 students given saplings by Savitribai Phule Pune University as it attempts Guinness World Record

Pune (Maharashtra), Jun 24 (ANI): In a move to spread awareness about the importance of trees, Savitribai Phule Pune University attempted a Guinness World Record for 'largest distribution of saplings' as it distributed saplings to more than 15,000 students in Maharashtra. The students will be planting the saplings in order to increase the green cover. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was the chief guest at the event.

CM Bhupesh Baghel inaugurates Shankar Nagar Railway Overbridge in Raipur

Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Jun 24 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the Shankar Nagar Railway Overbridge in Raipur. The overbridge is constructed over the Raipur-Visakhapatnam Railway line and will link Shankar Nagar locality of Raipur to Baloda main road. The overbridge will reduce the traffic congestion, and according to CM Baghel, it will benefit at least two lakh people.

Heavy rains in Bhutan wash away bridge in Assam's Tamulpur

Tamulpur (Assam), Jun 24 (ANI): Heavy rains in Bhutan have pounded several parts of Baksa's Tamulpur in Assam, where rise in water levels of Pagladia and Borolia rivers led to the washing away of a bridge which connected Tamulpur to Baksa District Headquarters. The situation has prompted the local villagers to either take up swimming or use bamboo or banana rafts to cross the water. Several villages on the banks of Pagladia and Borolia rivers are reeling under water. Heavy torrential rains in Bhutan have led to flooding in Pagladia and Borolia rivers.

Lawyer shot dead by bike-borne assailants in UP's Prayagraj

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 24 (ANI): A 50-year-old lawyer was shot dead by bike-borne unidentified assailants near a railway crossing in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. Sushil Patel was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Speaking on the possible reasons for Patel's murder, Prayagraj SSP Atul Sharma told ANI, "There are many reasons coming as he (Patel) had started a property dealing business, and people are even talking of old enmity. We will investigate the matter."

Authorities clean up mountain of garbage left behind after Gupta weddings in Uttarakhand's Auli

Chamoli (Uttarakhand), Jun 24 (ANI): The municipal corporation in Uttarakhand's Auli is currently cleaning up the garbage and waste that were left behind at the hill station after the marriage of members of the controversial Gupta family of South Africa. The marriages of Suryakant and Shashank - members of Gupta family - took place between June 18 and 22. Gupta family reportedly spent Rs 200 crore on the weddings.

New Delhi, Jun 24 (ANI): Antibiotic-resistance infections are a big challenge to public health, food safety, and economy. In their quest to find how antibiotic-resistance bacteria and their genes are transmitted from meat and plant-based foods, the researchers have found that plant-foods serve as vehicles for transmitting antibiotic resistance to the gut microbiome. Spread of antibiotic-resistant superbugs from plants to humans is different from outbreaks of diarrheal illnesses caused immediately after eating contaminated vegetables. Superbugs can asymptomatically hide in (or 'colonise') the intestines for months or even years, when they then escape the intestine and cause an infection, such as a urinary infection. The researchers developed a novel, lettuce-mouse model system that does not cause immediate illness to mimic the consumption of superbugs with plant-foods. They grew lettuce, exposed the lettuce to antibiotic-resistant E. coli, fed it to the mice and analysed their faecal sa

Himachal Pradesh holds "State Olympics" in the capital

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Jun 23 (ANI): In a bid to promote sports in the state, Olympic day run was organised in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla on June 23. The run was organised by the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association. Over 600 people and others participated in the 4 kilometers long run. The run was also organised to encourage the youth to stay away from drugs. While speaking to ANI, a participant said, "The main objective of run is to encourage more people to participate in games. Part of roof at SKMCH collapsed because building is old: Superintendent

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Jun 23 (ANI): Reacting on roof collapsed outside the ICU of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Bihar's Muzaffarpur, Superintendent Dr Sunil Kumar Shahi said, "It's an old building, it's not inside any ward but around the veranda area. PICU is in between ward number 6-7 but the patch fall between ward numbers 5-6." 110 people have died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) at the hospital.

40 stray dogs allegedly killed by Siddipet Municipal Corporation

Siddipet (Telangana), Jun 23 (ANI): At least 40 stray dogs were allegedly killed and buried by the Siddipet Municipal Corporation. Joel Davis, Commissioner, Siddipet said, "Case has been registered under relevant sections; we are yet to recover bodies of the dogs, further investigation underway." Several hundred dogs were poisoned to death allegedly on the orders of Siddipet municipality.

Shopian encounter: Defence experts hail security forces

New Delhi, Jun 23 (ANI): The defence experts shared their views on the shopian encounter in which at least four terrorists were gunned down. Praising the security forces, defence expert Qamar Agha said that now the terrorist organisations only have young untrained terrorists as security forces gunned down most of the trained terrorists. INTACH organises workshop to preserve Kashmiri handicrafts

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), June 23, ANI: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) of Jammu and Kashmir organised a workshop in Srinagar. The aim was to revive and preserve the importance of Kashmiri art and to boost the overall artisan community of Srinagar. The workshop was conducted because the handicraft products play a vital role to generate employment in the state. With the help of handicraft products the cultural and traditional activities are still alive in the valley but presently the artisan community is facing hardships due to the lack of good infrastructure along with basic facilities to nourish their art. The workshop included administrators, artisans, policy makers and representatives of design schools and civil society associated with the promotion and restoration of art and craft who shared their thoughts on the topic.

Japanese designers collaborate with Indian artists to manufacture Japanese outfits

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), June 23 (ANI): Japanese textile designers Chiaki Maki and Parva Tanaka have laid deep roots of Japanese tradition in India by collaborating with the Indian artisans and manufacturing traditional hand-woven Japanese outfits in Dehradun. Chiaki and Parva started working with the Indian artisans and opened their own work station in 2017, Ganga Maki Textile Studio in Bhogpur, Uttarakhand. Rakesh Singh is the Indian director for their textile studio. Beautiful and distinctive Japanese outfits are manufactured in their studio with the help of hardworking weavers and artisans, putting in their efforts to produce authentic outfits. Currently, about 50 workers, including, 10 weavers, five tailors, women workers for various hand-woven tasks, caretakers, and farmers are working at Ganga Maki Textile Studio. They conduct exhibitions twice a year, displaying their hand-woven outfits for the visitors.

Police official allegedly commits suicide in MP, probe underway

Jhabua (MP), Jun 23 (ANI): A police official allegedly committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua on Sunday. According to the Jhabua Assistant Superintendent of Police Vijay Dabar, the police official hung himself in his room. Police have also found a suicide note in which the deceased police official mentioned that he had a depression that he was not technically sound and he also mentioned about debt of the home. Police are investigating the matter from all aspects.
