Watch: VP Naidu pays tribute to Rajasthan BJP chief Madan Lal Saini at Delhi's AIIMS

New Delhi, Jun 25 (ANI): Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Monday paid tribute to Rajasthan's BJP chief Madan Lal Saini, who died earlier today at Delhi's AIIMS, where he was undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with infection in lungs. Senior party leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, too, paid tributes to Saini, who hailed from Rajasthan's Sikar. Saini's body will be taken to Jaipur and will be kept at the BJP office till 10:00 am for party leaders to pay tribute. Later, the body will be taken to Saini's hometown in Sikar, where his last rites will be performed.

Civic body struggles to clean waste in Auli created by Gupta family's weddings

Chamoli (Uttarakhand), Jun 25 (ANI): The grand weddings of the two sons of Gupta family had left a mountain of garbage in Uttarakhand's Auli, where the civic body is now struggling to clean all the waste that was left after the weddings which saw spending of Rs 200 crore between June 18 and 22. However, Joshimath Municipality Chairman Shailendra Pawar told ANI that the Gupta family has agreed to pay the user charge fee of Rs 54,000 to the civic body, and has also agreed to bear the rest of the cost.

Criminal carrying Rs 1 lakh bounty on head killed in encounter in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 25 (ANI): Adesh, a wanted criminal with a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Muzaffarnagar. Muzaffarnagar SSP Sudhir Singh said the deceased criminal was a very dangerous history sheeter as he had over three dozen cases of murder, robbery being registered against him. Police recovered one pistol and two motorcycles from him. In another incident, two criminals, who were carrying bounties of Rs 25,000 each on their heads, were arrested in Muzaffarnagar after being injured in separate encounters.

PIL filed in Gauhati HC challenging transportation of 4 elephants to Gujarat

Guwahati (Assam), Jun 25 (ANI): Gauhati High Court on Monday took up a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by animal activists challenging Assam government's decision to transport four juvenile elephants from Tinsukia to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The petitioners contended that the state government's decision was in violation of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and relevant orders of the Supreme Court in this regard. Assam Forest Department's Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sailen Pandey told ANI that the Gauhati HC found that an interim Supreme Court had already ordered states that elephants shouldn't be transported from one state to another; however, since the SC order was in respect to Kerala, the HC has asked the central government to clarify whether the SC order would also be applicable in Assam.

Locals rescue children after school van gets stuck in waterlogged underpass in UP's Kushinagar

Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 25 (ANI): When a school van carrying 8 children got stuck in a waterlogged underpass in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar, locals came in to rescue the students. All 8 children were rescued of the van which was halfway submerged into the water, and the driver of the van was arrested for deliberately trying to cross the waterlogged area even after the locals alerted him of the situation.

Massive 3-foot long lizard found in emergency ward of govt hospital in Haryana's Fatehabad

Fatehabad (Haryana), Jun 25 (ANI): A massive three-foot long wild lizard was found in the emergency ward of a government hospital in Haryana's Fatehabad. The wild creature created a situation of panic among the people present at the hospital. Dr Gopi, a wildlife life worker rushed to the hospital and took hold of the massive lizard. Dr Gopi said the wild creature, with the huge size, could have been a threat to the children present at the hospital.

New Delhi, Jun 24 (ANI): Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Pratap Chandra Sarangi asked if those who do not accept 'Vande Mataram' have a right to live in the country during motion of thanks on President Ram Nath Kovind's address to the joint session of Parliament. He said, "People who say 'Bharat ke tukde tukde karne tak jung rahegi', and 'Pakistan zindabad, Afzal Guru zindabad', do they have the right to live in this country? People who do not accept 'Vande Mataram', do they have right to live in India?"

Adhir Chowdhury sparks controversy by comparing PM Modi to 'gandi naali'

New Delhi, Jun 24 (ANI): Leader of opposition party in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury sparked a controversy by comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with 'gandi naali'. Responding to the motions of thanks moved by MoS Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Chowdhury said, "There is nothing wrong in praising someone. He is our Prime Minister as well. But it is wrong to compare Narendra Modi with Swami Vivekananda over his name." Over this, someone commented that at least we don't say Indira is India and India is Indira. Chowdhury responded to the taunt by saying, "Kahan maa ganga aur kahan gandhi naali."

Congress' Adhir Chowdhury apologises to PM Modi on his 'naali' remark in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): While speaking to ANI on Monday, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on his remark in Lok Sabha said, "It is a misunderstanding, I didn't say 'naali', if PM is upset with it I'm sorry. I had no intention to hurt him. If PM is hurt I'll personally apologise to him. My Hindi is not good, by 'naali' I meant channel. A BJP MP compared Swami Vivekananda with PM due to a similarity in their names and put them on same pedestal, it hurts sentiments of Bengal. That's why I said 'you're provoking me, if you continue I'll say you're comparing Ganga with 'naali'. Earlier, Chowdhury in the Lok Sabha called PM Modi 'naali' when BJP MP compared him with Swami Vivekananda.

Concerned embassies will be informed after postmortem: Pithoragarh DM on missing mountaineers

Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Jun 24 (ANI): Mountaineers went missing 3 weeks ago near Nanda Devi in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh. Bodies of these mountaineers have been recovered and Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande, DM of Pithoragarh spoke on the rescue operation. While speaking to ANI, he said, "Bodies are kept at an advanced camp from which they'll be brought to Nanda Devi base camp and then to Pithoragarh. Jharkhand Mob lynching: Family of Tabrez demands capital punishment for culprits

Saraikela Kharsawan (Jharkhand), Jun 24 (ANI): Family of Tabrez, who was beaten up by locals in Saraikela Kharsawan on suspicion of theft, and later died in a hospital, demanded capital punishment for the culprits. Tabrez was assaulted on suspicion of theft in Jamshedpur and beaten up for hours before being handed over to the police on June 18. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital on Saturday.

Jharkhand Mob lynching: It's wrong to politicize such incidents, says CP Singh

Ranchi (Jharkhand), Jun 24 (ANI): Jharkhand Minister CP Singh on Monday reacted on mob lynching case, where a man was attacked allegedly on a suspicion of theft in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur. Jharkhand Minister CP Singh called it a 'cut and paste' job of using whatever allegations fit such incidents. "Trend is prevalent these days to associate such incidents with BJP, RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal. It's a time of 'cut and paste', who fits what words where is difficult to say. Govt will conduct investigation. Trend to politicise such incidents wrong," said Singh. A man who was assaulted on suspicion of theft in Jamshedpur and beaten up for hours before being handed over to the police on June 18, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital on Saturday.

Delhi police registers case against persons over celebratory firing at marriage function

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): Delhi police took action against the persons who brandished guns at a marriage function in national capital's Shahdara. Delhi Police Public Relation Officer Madhur Verma on Monday informed that the accused have been identified and case has been registered against them. He also assured to nab the accused soon. Two people fired gunshots during a marriage ceremony in Shahdara. Mobile footage clearly showed two persons first fired in open area and then brandished guns inside the premises where people were dancing.

Several women have performed prayers and ploughed the land for rain in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur today. Women of Gopalpur village in Kanpur performed special prayers for rain.
