COVID-19: Temples closed on occasion of 'Hanuman Jayanti' amid lockdown

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh)/ New Delhi/ Dibrugarh (Assam)/ Ayodhya (UP), Apr 08 (ANI): Temples are closed on the occasion of 'Hanuman Jayanti' across India on April 08. In Delhi, various temples of Lord Hanuman are closed amid coronavirus lockdown. Nationwide lockdown has been imposed in backdrop of coronavirus outbreak. 'Hanuman Jayanti' is celebrated on full moon day during Chaitra month to commemorate the birth of Lord Hanuman. In Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, devotees were seen worshipping from outside the temple premises. The temple authorities have also put a notice board stating that the temples will be closed to deal with the spread of coronavirus. Similarly, in Assam's Dibrugarh and UP's Ayodhya, temples wore deserted look on auspicious occasion of 'Hanuman Jayanti' due to COVID-19 threat. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 4312 in India and 124 deaths.

Ludhiana (Punjab), Apr 08 (ANI): The textile and hosiery industry in Punjab's Ludhiana is developing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suits amid coronavirus pandemic. Shiva Texfabs Limited is preparing safety equipments for medical specialists, health workers, cops and other allied workers, who lack high-quality protective gear in their fight against COVID-19 outbreak. The purpose of personal protective equipment is to reduce exposure of people to hazards. Nationwide lockdown has been imposed in backdrop of COVID-19 outbreak. There are total 102 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Punjab including four cured and seven deaths. Locals destroy illegal wine in West Bengal amid nationwide lockdown

East Midnapore (West Bengal), Apr 08(ANI): Within lockdown, locals in East Midnapore recovered and destroyed illegal wine from a seller's house at Nakibasan Village. The shop owner was selling wine during lockdown and was hiding the stock in his godown. Though the owner of the wine shop successfully escaped but the police have started the investigation.

Mumbai, Apr 08 (ANI): Heavy crowd was seen at a vegetable market in Mumbai on April 08 amid nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. Locals were seen buying essential commodities at a vegetable market in Mumbai's Byculla vegetable market. Mumbaikars were seen violating norms of social distancing while purchasing vegetables and fruits. There are total 972 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra including 48 deaths and 56 cured. Amid corona lockdown, water in Yamuna looks cleaner as industrial units remain shut

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 08(ANI): Amid corona lockdown, water in Yamuna River looked cleaner than before as industrial units are shut. This is because the flow of pollutants is not taking place in the river. A devotee said, "Within 9 days of the lockdown, Yamuna was clean, this is also signal that one should not play with the environment." He further said that the way corona affects our body these pollutants are also like virus which makes the river body dead. "Therefore government should avoid the flow of pollutants in the river bodies," he said.

Shimla gets respite from monkey menace amid national lockdown

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Apr 08(ANI): Monkeys in Shimla are shifting to rural and forest areas due to curfew and lockdown. The monkeys from towns including capital, Shimla now have started shifting to rural areas and few of them are also shifting to their natural habitat in the forests. The farmers and farming bodies are worried as the shifting of monkeys to the rural areas will result the farming crises as monkey menace has been a serious threat to the farmers in the state. Himachal Kisan Sabha Head, Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said that this is the right time to push the monkeys back to forests. He further said that monkeys in most of the rural and urban areas are already declared vermin but people are not coming forward to kill them due to religious sentiments.

While Sasikala was admitted in the hospital on 29th March, Ramadevi was admitted on 5th April. Facebook rolls out new data tools to measure COVID-19 spread

New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): After Google, Facebook is also rolling out new data-focused tools to help health workers track and combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. As the official blog notes, the new tools include three new types of Disease Prevention Maps for forecasting and protective measures, and a prompt for people in the US to participate in a voluntary survey which is designed to identify COVID-19 hotspots earlier. The new types of maps include co-location maps to understand where COVID-19 cases may appear next, movement range trends show whether people are staying near home or visiting many parts of town, and social connectedness index shows friendships across states and countries to help epidemiologists forecast the likelihood of disease spread, as well as areas hardest hit by COVID-19 might seek support.

Study focuses on unravelling role of fungi in early childhood dental health

New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): In a recent study, researchers have found a possible treatment using fungi that may someday lead to better cavity prevention measures and treatments in children. For years, the dental community has known that tooth decay occurs when the good and bad bacteria in our mouth become imbalanced and forms a biofilm (aka plaque). The biofilm absorbs the sugars we eat and the bacteria catabolize those sugars, turning them into acid, which decalcifies the teeth and causes cavities. The research team identified 139 species of fungus that live in human dental plaque, and of those, nine were strongly associated with dental health--in other words, they could be contributing to keeping teeth healthy.

COVID-19: Kathua Police station gets disinfection tunnel to sanitise officials at entrance

Kathua (JandK), Apr 08 (ANI): A disinfection tunnel has been installed at the entrance of Kathua Police Station on April 07. The tunnel was installed as a precautionary measure to protect oneself against COVID-19. Speaking to ANI, a police official said, "Sodium Hypochlorite solution has been used in it. Akshaya Patra kitchens feeding 30,000 migrants daily in Delhi amid lockdown

New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): Akshaya Patra Foundation which is known for world's largest midday meal programme has extended its help in COVID-19 lockdown by daily feeding around 30,000 migrants in Delhi. The foundation is utilising its mega kitchens to feed the distressed public all over the country, where uptil now they have served 2 lakh meals in Delhi and around 8 lakh meals in NCR. "At this time of COVID lockdown situation, there are lots of migrant labourers and daily wage earners who were severely affected. So the government asked us why don't you serve meals in partnership with us and supply meals in hunger relief centres in various parts of Delhi. So immediately we jumped in as we had the facility and as the schools are shut down, so we though why not to serve the meals for these hungry people. It is very important social cause in this situation as whole country is in crisis and the big need is food," Shri Bharatarshabha Dasa, NGO's Delhi president told ANI.

Lockdown violators made to do sit-ups in Patna

Patna (Bihar), Apr 08 (ANI): Bihar Police on April 07 punished lockdown violators in Patna. Police asked violators to do sit-ups as a punishment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced 21-day nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19. Bihar has over 30 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, one of the lowest in the country.

Rajasthan model to fight COVID-19 being discussed in entire country: State Health Minister

Jaipur (Rajasthan), Apr 08 (ANI): Rajasthan Health Minister, Raghu Sharma said that state's model to fight COVID-19 is being discussed in other parts of the country. "No, we've made a strategy to fight COVID-19. If any state has worked in a planned way, then it's Rajasthan. That's why our model is being discussed in other parts of country," said Sharma on if strategy adopted to fight Zika virus in 2018 is being used.

COVID19: If needed, will extend lockdown, says CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Bhopal, Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Apr 07 (ANI): Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan hinted extension of the lockdown in the state. "Lives of people are more important, economy can be built again but if people die, how will we bring them back? That is why, if the need arises we will extend the lockdown, a decision will be taken based on the situation," said CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. However the 21-day nationwide lockdown will end on April 14. Nine people lost their live due the pandemic in the state. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh has been reported total number of 165 positive cases of coronavirus so far.

Railways has set up 40,000 isolation beds in 2,500 coaches: Health Ministry

New Delhi, Apr 07 (ANI): Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal on April 07 informed about the current status of COVID-19 cases in the country and Centre and state governments preparations over it. He said, "Indian Railways has prepared 40,000 isolation beds in 2,500 coaches. They are making 375 isolation beds daily and this is going on across 133 locations across the country."
