New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that adequate strictness will be taken during lockdown which was announced on March 22 in wake of coronavirus. "I appeal everyone. Government is doing everything to stop the spread. Lockdown started today, people were seen on roads, but if they do not follow strict measures will be taken from tomorrow," said CM Kejriwal. Positive cases stand at 30 in Delhi as of March 23.

COVID-19: CM Khattar announces lockdown in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 23 (ANI): In view of deadly COVID-19, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on March 23 announced the lockdown in state with immediate effect. He informed that the essentials services will remain go on. A total of 415 positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in India as of today.

COVID-19: Kerala priest arrested for conducting holy mass amid restrictions

Thrissur (Kerala), Mar 23 (ANI): Priest of Nithya Sahaya Matha Church in Thrissur's Chalakudi was arrested on March 23 by Kerala Police for conducting holy mass. There is a restriction on large gathering in state in view of coronavirus. Section 144 of CrPc has been imposed in Kasaragod and Kazhikode districts. The total number of positive coronavirus cases in Kerala has reached 67.

Private vehicles can ply for now in Uttarakhand, borders to be sealed soon: CM Rawat

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Mar 23 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat informed that presently, movement of private vehicles is allowed as people are returning homes. He said, "As of now, movement of private vehicles are allowed as people are coming to their homes in Uttarakhand but we will completely seal the state borders very soon. I appeal to people to stay put wherever they are." CM Rawat announced a state-wide lockdown till March 31 after observing Janata Curfew's effects. However, essential services will continue in state.

COVID-19: DTC buses overcrowded as lockdown reduces strength

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): After Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, imposed lockdown in Delhi and announced that only 25 per cent of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus fleet will continue to ply on roads in the national capital, reduced number of DTC buses were running amid lockdown in the city. The shortage of buses left commuters stranded on the bus stands. One of the commuters said, "I want to go to Paharganj as I need to buy medicines but I am waiting here for 15-20 minutes and there is no bus." CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced a lockdown in the state from 6 AM today till March 31. A total of 415 positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in India as of today.

CM Vijay Rupani reviews situation of coronavirus-hit districts in Gujarat

People flout lockdown rules in Patna, overcrowd buses after cancellation of trains

Patna (Bihar), Mar 23 (ANI): People were seeing defying the state imposed lockdown on March 23. Mithapur Bus Stand was crammed with people leaving for their hometown to evade the disease. Men and women sat on bus rooftop. A local said, "We are helpless right now. What can we do? We will have to pay whatever we are asked. Administration should look into this." Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced state-wide lockdown till March 31. The lockdown includes halt on public transport.

COVID-19: SC may soon begin hearing cases through video conferencing

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Amid coronavirus outbreak, the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde on March 23 said the apex court might temporarily start hearings all cases through video conferencing. Modalities of how it is to be done are being worked out, the top court said. The proposal comes even as the Supreme Court on March 23 said that lawyers' chambers in the court premises will be closed due to the health hazard of coronavirus. The top court has issued several directions and restricted its functioning to urgent cases amid the coronavirus, of which at least 415 confirmed cases have surfaced in the country. The Supreme Court Bar Association and Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association have passed resolutions urging the Chief Justice to halt the functioning of the top court.

J-K Police recovers huge cache of arms and ammunition from Keran sector

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Mar 23 (ANI): Inspector General of Police of Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar informed that the authorities have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from Keran sector of J-K. He informed, "We found that LeT is trying to activate the Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir. 4-5 boys have also joined LeT out of which one died in encounter. During investigation, we found that they are getting arms and ammunition from Keran sector." He further added, "Police have recovered eight AK-47 rifles, nine pistols, 300 live rounds, 80 grenades and other paraphernalia in Keran sector. This operation will continue."

COVID-19: Maharashtra Health Minister says state not in 'community spread' phase

Mumbai, Mar 23 (ANI): In a press conference on March 23, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope cleared that the state has not entered the "community spread" phase, even as the total number of infections reached 89, highest in the country.Tope said, "There are total 89 positive Coronavirus cases in the state including 14 new cases in Mumbai and 1 in Pune. I want to make it very clear that we have not entered the community spread phase. We have not entered into phase third as of now."

Goa deserted for 2nd consecutive day as govt extends 'Janata Curfew' till March 25

Sensex dives almost 3000 points as countries go for lockdowns due to COVID-19

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices dived by 9 per cent during early hours on Monday as governments and businesses adapt to prolonged quarantines during the coronavirus pandemic. The Indian rupee too dragged further to hit a fresh record low of 76.02 versus Friday's close of 75.19. At 10 am, the BSE S-P Sensex was down by 2,992 points or 10 per cent to 26,924 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 847 points or 9.7 per cent to 7,898. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were deep in the red. Nifty private bank was down by 11.2 per cent, realty by 10.9 per cent, financial service by 10.1 per cent and auto by 9.8 per cent. Reports said the global death toll due to coronavirus exceeded over 14,000 with more than 300,000 infections.

COVID-19 outbreak: Vehicular movement halted at Delhi borders

New Delhi / Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 23 (ANI): After Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, announced sealing of the national capital's borders, barricades were seen at various parts. Barriers were placed near Ghazipur border to check movement of traffic. Police have also barricaded the movement of vehicles between Delhi and Gurugram near Kapashera. Police at Delhi-Gautam Buddha Nagar border stopped vehicles from Delhi entering into Gautam Buddha Nagar, amid lockdowns. It led to major traffic at borders. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a lockdown in the state from 6 AM today till March 31.
