Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 29 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism Neelkanth Tiwari's mother Lali Devi, in Varanasi on September 29. He reached at Tiwari's residence in Sudamapur and paid tribute to his mother. Devi passed away on September 24 and was suffering from brain tumour. Several other officials were also present along with CM Yogi to pay tribute to her.

Navratri festival Day 1: Devotees throng Vaishno Devi to offer prayers

Katra (J-K), Sep 29 (ANI): Devotees thronged at Vaishno Devi temple to offer prayers on the first day of Navratri in Jammu and Kashmir's Katra on September 29. Devotees seek blessings of the almighty on the auspicious occasion. The temple of Vaishno Devi was decked up in flowers as people gathered in large numbers to attend the nine-day-long festivities. During these nine days, devotees observe fast and perform 'pooja'.

PM Modi urges people to 'deliver out' excess items from homes this festive season

New Delhi, Sep 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed fourth edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' on September 29. He asked the citizens to also 'deliver out' the goods and happiness while receiving goodies during upcoming festival season. "On one hand, when we experience the 'Delivery In' of sweets, and gifts, let us think for a moment on the process of 'Delivery Out'. At least in our homes, items that are in excess and thus, not required anymore, could be allocated for 'Delivery Out, said PM Modi in 'Mann Ki Baat'.

Locals forced to carry body in cart due to incessant rainfall in Patna

Patna (Bihar), Sep 29 (ANI): Around 24 districts of Bihar including Patna were badly hit after incessant rains lashed the state on September 28. The locals are forced to carry body in a cart due to incessant rainfall in Alamganj area of Patna. The body was being taken in a cart to the hospital for postmortem. Locals are facing several problems in the low-lying areas due to continuous rainfall. Heavy rain lashed wide areas of Patna causing water-logging problem. Patna remained the worst affected after several localities in the city were left water-logged after the rains. Normal life was thrown out of gear after rainwater entered in the residential areas and houses were submerged under knee-deep water. The team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is rescuing the people and animals from low-lying areas of the city.

Kochi (Kerala), Sep 29 (ANI): The Supreme Court on September 27 directed demolition of flats built on the coastal zone of Kochi's Maradu within 138 days. SC also asked the Kerala government to pay Rs 25 lakh interim compensation to each flat owner within the time frame of four-weeks. The owners of flat protested and sat on hunger strike in Kerala's Kochi on September 29. They will also meet the District Collector to get their voices heard. The apex court also ordered setting up of a one-member committee of retired high court judge to oversee the demolition and assess total compensation. Court also fixed the matter for further hearing on October 25.

Onboard, Sep 29 (ANI): Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh practiced yoga with security personnel onboard INS Vikramaditya. Rajnath Singh commissioned the second Kalvari-class submarine INS Khanderi on September 28 in Mumbai. Khanderi is built at state-run Mazgaon Dock Limited and underwent rigorous sea trials for over two and a half years. He also launched the warship 'Nilgiri', the first of the Project 17 Alpha (P17A) class ships.

'Garba' organisers need to check Aadhaar to allow 'Non-Hindus': Bajrang Dal

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (ANI): The Bajrang Dal has urged all 'Garba' and 'Dandiya' organisers to make Aadhar Card mandatory at entry points of the events in order to identify people of 'non-Hindus' communities.We have asked the event organisers to mandate Aadhar Cards at the entry spot to identify non-Hindus entering the venues and also to avoid employing Non-Hindus as bouncers for these events," said S Kailash, Media Convener, Bajrang Dal. "Also, the event managers are hiring non-Hindu bouncers which seem to be a main cause for these miscreants to enter the events. Another major lapse is lack of monitoring and control on who enters the events," he said.

Telangana's floral festival Bathukamma off to a colourful start

Hyderabad (Telangana), Sep 29 (ANI): Women celebrated the nine-day floral festival, Bathukamma in Telangana. This year the festival is being celebrated from September 28 to October 6. Bathukamma is a festival celebrated by the women on a grand scale. Alike Durga Pooja, devotees perform rituals and worship Hindu deity Gauri Devi in the form of Bathukamma. For nine days, different names are given to the Hindu deity. The festival commences with Engili Pula Bathukamma and culminates with Saddula Bathukamma on the last day. "We celebrate Bathukamma year with the same zeal and happiness. I come here every year with my family members. We exchange gifts with each other and we do participate and dance to celebrate. This is a nine-day festival and we celebrate the ninth day on a greater scale," a local named Varsha said. Several seasonal flowers having medicinal values are used to make the idols. On the last day of the festival, devotees immerse the idol in Bathukamma Ghat at Tank Bund lake.

Elephant dies due to electrocution after getting tangled in fencing in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Sep 29 (ANI): A 5-year-old male elephant was found dead on Saturday after getting it got trapped in solar power fencing at a farm in Kalkothi here. Officials from the forest department rushed to the spot to remove the elephant's body and are in the process of tracing the owner of the farm, who has been identified as Thangavelu. The body of the elephant has been sent for a post mortem.

High Court bans animal sacrifice in temples of Tripura

Agartala (Tripura), Sep 29 (ANI): The Tripura High Court on September 27 ordered a ban on animal sacrifice in temples in the state. High Court gave the verdict in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Subhash Bhattacharjee, a retired judge. According to the petitioner, animal sacrifice is a practice of cruelty against animals. "It is very good step taken by High Court. I hope it is the step in right direction," a local told to ANI. "If we can't create a life then we don't have right to destroy it," another local said to ANI.
