Protestors in Hong Kong form human chain against now-suspended 'extradition bill'

Hong Kong (China), Aug 24 (ANI): Supporters of Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement created human chain on both sides of city's harbour on August 24. The focus of protest was on now-suspended extradition bill that would have allowed China to extradite people from territory. The action was planned to coincide with 30th anniversary of the 'Baltic Way' that was a historically significant peaceful demonstration against Soviet occupation.

Maharashtra Govt selects tribal women to drive state road buses

Pune (Maharashtra), Aug 24 (ANI): Maharashtra Government has selected women from the tribal community to drive Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses in the state on August 23. 163 women have been selected for this pilot project will later be inducted as drivers in the state-run bus service. Former President Pratibha Patil inaugurated the corporation's initiative yesterday.

Woman gives birth on state highway in MP's Burhanpur

Burhanpur (MP), Aug 24 (ANI): A woman gave birth to a girl-child on a state highway in Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur after ambulance allegedly failed to arrive for taking the pregnant woman to the hospital. The incident took place on August 24. Husband of the woman took her to the hospital on a motorcycle when the ambulance failed to arrive. Woman was later taken to Shahpur Community Health Centre where the doctors attended the mother and the newborn.

Sardar Patel united 630 princely states, PM Modi fully integrated J-K with India: Amit Shah

Hyderabad, Aug 24 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended passing out parade of IPS probationers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad on August 24. He remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on this day. Shah said, "I want to pay tributes to Sardar Patel, he united 630 princely states, only Jammu-Kashmir was left. J-K was not the proper part of India due to Article 370. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Article 370 has been abrogated and J-K fully integrated with rest of India. I remember Sardar Patel on this day. He is the founder of Indian Civil Services."

Second refill of cylinders under Ujjwala scheme started: CM Raghubar Das

New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad who is part of Opposition delegation which will visit Jammu and Kashmir on August 24, spoke to mediapersons before his departure. He said, "The political parties that are going under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi to Jammu and Kashmir, are responsible ones. We are not going there to break any law. But J-K and Laddakh are concerned issues for us. On one hand Govt says situation is normal, and on the other hand they don't allow anyone to go. I have never seen such contradictions. If things are normal then why political leaders are under house arrest? If things are normal then why don't they let me go to my own house?" A delegation of opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on August 24.

Self-administered acupressure may help in lower back pain

New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): Researchers have found that people with chronic lower back pain who perform self-administered acupressure experience improvement in pain and fatigue symptoms. In the study, published in the journal, 'Pain Medicine,' the research team randomly assigned 67 participants with chronic low back pain into three groups. "Relaxing acupressure is thought to be effective in reducing insomnia while stimulating acupressure is thought to be effective in fatigue reduction," Murphy said. Participants in the acupressure groups were trained to administer acupressure on certain points of the body, and spent between 27 and 30 minutes daily, over the course of six weeks, performing the technique. She said this study highlights the benefits of a non-pharmacological treatment option that patients could perform easily on their own and see positive results.

Woman allegedly given Triple Talaq by husband for giving birth to girl child in Ayodhya

Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 24 (ANI): A woman was allegedly given Triple Talaq by her husband in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya. She was given talaq for giving birth to a girl child. While speaking to ANI, the victim said, "Since the first month of our wedding my husband started torturing me for dowry. When I gave birth to a girl I was given triple talaq. I demand justice." Triple Talaq Bill was passed in Rajya Sabha on July 30 criminalising men for divorcing by uttering talaq thrice. Meanwhile, the Additional SP (Rural) of Ayodhya Shailendra Kumar Singh said, "The incident happened under Haiderganj police station limit. On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim the case has been registered. Investigation is underway in the case."

1 dead, 4 injured after 4-storey building collapses in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi

Bhiwandi (Maharashtra), Aug 24 (ANI): Around one person was declared dead and four others were injured after a four-storey building was collapsed in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi on August 24. The incident took place in Shanti Nagar area of Bhiwandi. Several people are still feared trapped in the debris. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team was immediately pressed into action to rescue the people from the debris. Fire tenders were also rushed to the spot. Rescue operations are underway. More details are awaited in this regard. While speaking to ANI, Additional Commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation AshokKumar Rankhamb said, "We had received a message that column of the building might dismantle. Our emergency team reached here and after examination, they found that the building might collapse."
