Schools in Mumbai to remain shut till Dec 31: Maharashtra minister

Mumbai, Nov 20 (ANI): Maharashtra government on November 20 announced the decision to extend closure of schools in Mumbai till December 31 as COVID cases in the city are on rise. Maharashtra's School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad confirmed the news. "Maharashtra government has decided to keep schools shut till December 31," she said. Schools in state that were shut due to COVID pandemic, were set to reopen on Nov 23.

COVID-19: '1,76,36,904 samples tested in UP, highest in country'

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 20 (ANI): Principal Health Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Amit Mohan Prasad on November 20 said that 1,61,888 COVID-19 samples were tested yesterday, which takes the total number of testing in the state at 1,76,36,904, highest number of testing from other states.

Random COVID testing underway in Noida

Noida (UP), Nov 20 (ANI): Random rapid COVID testing being conducted at Sector 37 bus stand in Noida. "It's the usual testing method that we've been following since 2-3 days. The method is successful, we found 9 positive cases out of 178 tests at Botanical Garden yesterday," said Amit Vikram, Additional CMO.

Delhi Police penalises commuters found not wearing masks in public

Delhi-UP Border, Nov 20 (ANI): Delhi Police on November 20 conducted a checking drive at Delhi-Noida border and penalised commuters for not wearing masks in public. Under COVID guidelines, people need to wear masks and maintain social distancing while commuting. Delhi government revised the fine yesterday, raising it to Rs 2000 from earlier Rs 500. Covid vaccine with no 'serious side-effects', but India faces cold-reality

Global drugmakers Pfizer and BioNTech have said that their Covid-19 vaccine was found 95 per cent effective in the final analysis of the Phase 3 trial, including in people aged over 65 years, paving the way for the companies to apply for emergency authorisation from US regulators within days. Based on current projections, the companies expect to produce globally up to 50 million vaccine doses in 2020 and up to 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021. The major announcement comes just two days after leading biotechnology company Moderna said on Monday its virus vaccine had an efficacy rate of 94.5 per cent. Nagrota encounter: 4 terrorists killed, police constable injured

Nepal Communist Party meeting deferred for 10 days

Kathmandu (Nepal), Nov 19 (ANI): The crucial meeting of the Central Secretariat of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) on November 18 ended in a stalemate. During the meeting, Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli demanded 10 days time to present a separate political document. PM Oli wanted to present a separate political document in response to his rival Pushpa Kamal Dahal's accusations that he was running the government without consulting the party. Oli told the members that he will present a separate political document in the next meeting for which he had sought 10 days time for the preparation. COVID-19: 45,576 new cases in India, total infections nearing 90 lakh

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): India's COVID-19 tally crossed 89.58 lakh mark on November 19. A significant rise in new COVID cases was observed as spike of 45,576 new cases and 585 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Currently, there are 4,43,303 active cases of coronavirus in the country whereas, total cured cases are 83,83,603 with 48,493 new discharges in the last 24 hours. As per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 10.28 lakh samples were tested for coronavirus on Nov 18.
