New Delhi, Mar 17 (ANI): Police personnel and Resident Welfare Association (RWA) members talked to the protesters of Shaheen Bagh on March 17. They requested the protesters to call off their protest in the light of Coronavirus outbreak. The protesters have not agreed to the request yet. Thousands of people are holding a sit-in protest in Shaheen Bagh against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) since December.

Coronavirus: Busy in laboratory expansion, has 72 functional labs, says ICMR DG

New Delhi, Mar 17(ANI): Indian Council of Medical Research on March 17 briefed media about the latest status of coronavirus in the country. ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said that the organisation is busy in laboratory expansion and as of now, there are 72 functional laboratories in ICMR system. "We have also engaged non-ICMR, Ministry of Health, government laboratories include CSIR, DRDO, DBT, government medical colleges, and we have 49 of those labs which will start testing by the end of this week."

COVID-19: CM Gehlot urges people to avoid going to crowded place

COVID-19: Delhi Police initiates preventive measures for its staff

New Delhi, Mar 17 (ANI): Staff and visitors at DCP Central Office are being given masks and hand sanitisers during their visit as a preventive measure against the deadly coronavirus. Their temperature is being checked with the help of a thermometer gun as a precautionary measure amid coronavirus scare. All staff members who are working in the field are advised to use masks. Speaking on this, DCP Central Sanjay Bhatia said that temperature of all staff and visitors is being checked with temperature gun, and they are also being given hand sanitiser and masks. All field officers, beat staff, patrolling staff are being asked to use mask, and they indeed are using them, he added.

Maharashtra govt should lockdown few cities to contain coronavirus: BJP's Ram Kadam

Mumbai, Mar 17 (ANI): BJP leader Ram Kadam expressed his grief over the first death of COVID-19 patient in Maharashtra, and advised the state government to lockdown few cities in order to contain the deadly virus. "It is very unfortunate that the Ghatkopar resident who was tested positive with Coronavirus has died. The government should plan to lock down a few cities especially Mumbai and Pune, in order to contain the virus," said Kadam after one COVID-19 patient died in Maharashtra.

Despite pandemic coronavirus, devotees throng Patna's Hanuman temple

Nearly 14,000 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Globally in 24 Hours; Tally Exceeds 167,500: WHO

New Delhi, Mar 17 (ANI): Nearly 14,000 people were infected with the novel coronavirus globally over the past day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases above 167,500, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its report on Tuesday. A total of 167,511 cases have been confirmed worldwide, with 13,903 new ones over the past 24 hours. At the same time, the global death toll rose by 862 to 6,606.Cases of the virus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has been reported in over 130 countries, including India, where over 110 people have been infected.

Coronavirus outbreak: Calcutta High Court to start thermal screening of visitors

Kolkata, Mar 17 (ANI): As outbreak of coronavirus continues to haunt, Calcutta High Court issued a notification to take all necessary measures. From today onwards, Calcutta High Court will start thermal screening of visitors at entry gates. "Physicians from the high court medical unit or other appropriate personnel will be stationed at all the entry points of the main building and use thermal guns to check the temperatures of all entrants, including judges, lawyers and litigants," lawyer further said. "The lawyers advise their clients not to visit the court unless their presence is directed by the court or is unavoidable," told the lawyer. The order was issued by registrar general.
