COVID-19: Sanitize your hands to enter this Pune temple

Pune (Maharashtra), Mar 16 (ANI): Following coronavirus scare in the country, state and central governments are continuously taking efforts to curb the spread of dreadful disease. In a recent example, a Pune temple also took precautionary measure amid the tension. Sanitizing hands was made mandatory for devotees before stepping in Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple. Cautious devotees were also seen lining up at the temple with proper self gears. 110 cases have been confirmed in India so far, with Maharashtra emerging as the epicenter with 37 cases.

COVID-19: All gyms, night clubs and spas to be closed till Mar 31 in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference in national capital on March 16. While speaking to media, he said all gyms, night clubs and spas will be shut till March 31 to prevent spread of coronavirus. Adding to it, he further said, "Any gathering with more than 50 persons excluding weddings will not be allowed. For weddings also, we request if they can be postponed then please do so."

Coronavirus: Visitors undergo thermal screening at Supreme Court, Parliament

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Thermal screening of visitors is being conducted at Supreme Court of India and Parliament. Laser thermometers are being used for screening. Positive cases of coronavirus have risen to 110 in India. Seven positive cases have been reported in Delhi.

Lok Sabha: 'Didn't get clear answer on wilful defaulters', says Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that he didn't get clear answer for his question in Parliament about the names of wilful defaulters. "I had asked a simple question about the names of wilful defaulters. But I was not given a clear answer. What hurted me was that the Speaker did not allow me to ask a secondary question which is my right as a Member of Parliament," said Gandhi after he asked question in Lok Sabha on wilful defaulters and measures taken to recover loans advanced to them.

P Chidambaram criticises Centre, says not doing enough to combat COVID-19

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and claimed this government is not doing enough to combat coronavirus. He said, "Govt is not doing enough to combat coronavirus. I've no quarrel if PM wants to call meeting of SAARC or G-20. States are taking bold measures whereas Centre is very diffident and seems to be behind the curve. There should be a video conference between PM and CMs."

IRCTC takes precautionary measures to combat COVID-19

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): As fear of coronavirus continues to mount, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRTC) is taking precautionary measures for the safety of passengers. Railway employees are thoroughly sanitising curtains and blankets. "IRCTC is taking all necessary steps to combat coronavirus. We are sanitising all curtains and blankets," senior CDO, Jitendra told ANI.

Coronavirus: Odisha officials request tourists to leave Puri after 1st positive case

Puri (Odisha), March 16 (ANI): 1st positive case from state of Odisha was detected on March 16. All educational institutions, gyms, cinema halls and swimming pools have been closed to contain outbreak. Officials of Puri requested tourists including foreign nationals to leave the beach town. "We are convincing tourists, foreign and domestic, to not enter the city," said a SK Roy, Regional Transport Officer, Puri.

Equities tumble as panic selling continues, Yes Bank surges by 48 pc

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Equity indices nosedived by nearly 4.5 per cent during early hours on Monday amid the rapidly escalating global coronavirus pandemic even though the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates to near-zero a day earlier to help shore up the world's largest economy. At 10 am, the BSE S and P Sensex was down by 1,575 points or 4.62 per cent to 32,529 while the Nifty 50 cracked by 449 points or 4.51 per cent to 9,506. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red with Nifty private bank and financial service down by 7 per cent each, realty by 6.7 per cent, metal by 5.9 per cent, and IT by 4.9 per cent. Among stocks, IndusInd Bank was the top loser after dropping by over 11 per cent at Rs 714 per share. However, Yes Bank surged by 48.14 per cent to Rs 37.85 per share.

Italy records 368 new coronavirus deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Italy on Sunday (local time) reported 368 deaths in the last 24 hours due to coronavirus even as the total death toll due to the deadly virus in the European country rose to 1,809. Civil Protection Department chief Angelo Borrelli, during a press conference in Rome, revealed that the total number of positive cases registered in the country reached 24,747 on Sunday, with an increase of 3,590 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, CNN reported. Meanwhile, France's Public Health authority too reported 36 new deaths due to the deadly virus, taking the toll to 127 while the total number of cases mounted to 5,423. The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday declared that the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic has moved from China, where new cases reported have drastically decreased, to Europe, where most countries are seeing a climb in infections and fatalities.

COVID-19: Footfall decreases in parks, gardens in Nagpur

Nagpur (Maharashtra), Mar 16 (ANI): The footfall decreased in parks and gardens in Ramdaspeth area of Nagpur over coronavirus concerns. According to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Maharashtra has 32 confirmed cases of coronavirus, highest in the country. "80 Percent of people are not coming into the park because of coronavirus fear. People are taking precautions at home," a local told ANI. In India total of 110 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported so far.
