NABARD helps water deprived village of Udhampur, offers employment to locals

Udhampur (J and K), Oct 16 (ANI): National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) helped water deprived region Channi Mansar Panchayat of Udhampur. It provided agricultural skills, watershed project and social strength to the village. The 'watershed' project was started in the village to solve water deficiency problem. The entire project aimed at soil and water conservation measures. It also opened doors of employment to locals. After Samba, Udhampur became the second district to receive the scheme of NABARD.

Women empowerment campaign under 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' organised in Rajouri

Rajouri (J and K), Oct 16 (ANI): A women empowerment campaign was organised in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri. The campaign was organised under 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme. The special handloom stitching training program was also organised for the locals. The campaign is helping women to become self-employed. 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' is an initiative by Government of India that aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls of India.

INX media case: ED officials reach Tihar Jail to grill P Chidambaram

New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials reached Tihar Jail to interrogate Congress leader P Chidambaram on October 16. Yesterday, a special court had allowed three ED officials to interrogate P Chidambaram in INX media money laundering case. Currently, he is in judicial custody in Tihar Jail and case is probed by CBI. Meanwhile, his son Karti Chidambaram and wife Nalini Chidambaram also reached Tihar Jail. INX Media case refers to an ongoing high-profile money laundering investigation in India and involves allegation of irregularities in foreign exchange clearances given to INX Media group.

Suspected object safely disarmed by Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad

Manipur (Imphal), Oct 16 (ANI): A suspected object was spotted inside the office of Panthoibi Housing Finance Co. at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai in Manipur, last night. 4-year-old killed after portion of building collapses in Maharashtra's Virar

Virar (Maharashtra), Oct 16 (ANI): A 4-year-old girl lost her life after a portion of a building collapsed in Virar city of Maharashtra on October 15. The girl is believed to have been playing in the balcony on the third floor when a portion of the common balcony collapsed. The debris is believed to have hit her before a portion of it came crashing on the ground floor.

Security beefed up outside AMU after student commits suicide

Aligarh (UP), Oct 16 (ANI): A student committed suicide by hanging himself near Mumtaz Hall of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police, Akash Kulhari told that they had sent the body for postmortem. However, police said that the situation is under control. Meanwhile, police beefed up the security outside the university.

'Murma Jatra Mela' gets status of state fair: CM Raghubar Das

Ranchi (Jharkhand), Oct 16 (ANI): Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das on October 16 announced 'Murma Jatra Mela' as a state fair. While attending an event, he said, "For the promotion of tribal culture, our government named 'Murma Jarta' as the fair of the state. Bhopal (MP), Oct 16 (ANI): Cabinet Minister PC Sharma compared condition of roads in Madhya Pradesh to "cheeks" of BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and added that Congress government will make them like "cheeks" of Lok Sabha MP Hema Malini. The minister gave the statement at the time he was inspecting Habibganj area along with Public Works Development (PWD) minister Sajjan Verma. "Roads in Madhya Pradesh were built like that of Washington. What has happened to these roads now? After heavy rain, there are potholes everywhere. Presently, the condition of roads is like stains of smallpox. It seems that the condition of the roads has become like the cheeks of Kailash Vijayvargiya," Sharma told reporters here. "These roads will be repaired within 15 days on the orders of Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Very soon we will make these roads like cheeks of Hema Malini," he said.

Lucknow (UP), Oct 16 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh is having a rethink on its decision to terminate the services of 25,000 home guards attached with police stations and engaged in traffic duty after an uproar over the move. Home Guard Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Chetan Chauhan said, "The decision has not been taken yet, this matter is still under process." "No home guard will be removed. They might reduce their working day," he further added. Last week, the state police headquarters had issued orders to all districts Superintendent of Police (SP) to terminate the services of 25,000 Home Guards.

Praful Patel dismisses his alleged links with Dawood Ibrahim's aide

Mumbai, Oct 15 (ANI): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel on October 15 dismissed reports of him being summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 18 in a land deal related to gangster Iqbal Mirchi, a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. He said that he has not received any notice or summons. If received notice, he would go to ED himself. Abdul Kalam's brother pays tribute to 'missile man' on his 88th birth anniversary

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Oct 15 (ANI): Mohamed Muthu Meera Maraikayar, elder brother of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, paid tribute to the 'missile man' on his 88th birth anniversary in Rameswaram on October 15. The former President suffered a cardiac arrest on July 27, 2015, and passed away while giving a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. In 2002, Dr Kalam became the 11th President of India and famously became the 'People's President' for his friendly nature to one and all. In 2010, the United Nations decided to recognise October 15 as World Students' Day in honour of the former president. He always referred to himself as a teacher first.

Article 370 revocation: NIT Srinagar reopens after 70 days

Srinagar, Oct 15 (ANI): National Institute of Technology (NIT) reopened in Srinagar on October 15. In the wake of Jammu and Kashmir's situation after abrogation of Article 370 and security and communications lockdown, the classes were suspended at the college. NIT has opened after almost 70 days of shutdown. Mobile postpaid services also resumed in the Valley on October 14. The central government had scrapped provisions of Article 370 that used to give special status to Jammu and Kashmir as a state on August 05.
