Agra (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 05 (ANI): Ahead of Vijayadashami or Dussehra, a Muslim man is busy preparing the effigies to be used on the occasion that is majorly celebrated across India to mark the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Jafar Ali, who hails from nearby Mathura said that his family has been doing this work for the past three generations and is an example of communal harmony and brotherhood in the country. "Our family has been for generations making the Ravana effigy. We do it to show Hindu-Muslim unity. Yes, we are Muslim but we do it," Ali told ANI. This year, he is preparing a 100-foot high effigy of Ravana which will be burnt near the city's Ramlila ground. Dussehra is celebrated by conducting pujas and plays of the events of the Ramayana (Ramlila) over the nine-day Navaratri and burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad along with fireworks on the tenth day to commemorate the destruction of evil.
Mumbai, Oct 05 (ANI): Several people gathered at Mumbai's Aarey Forest to protest against the felling of trees on October 05. Bombay High Court has dismissed all petitions against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decision which allowed felling of more than 2700 trees there, for metro car shed. Tree felling started at Aarey after Bombay HC throws out Public Interest Litigations (PILs). Protestors were later removed from the spot by police. Bombay HC also imposed fine of Rs 50,000 on Shiv Sena corporator Yashwant Jadhav, who had filed a plea against the tree authority's approval to cut over 2700 trees for the metro project. Jadhav was a member of the tree authority.
Budaun (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 05 (ANI): The principal of a primary school was caught consuming liquor within the in school premises in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district on October 04. He was caught by villagers while consuming alcohol. While speaking to ANI, District Magistrate (DM) of Budaun district, Dinesh Kumar Singh said, "I have directed the Basic Education Officer to conduct probe immediately and take action against the said teacher. I have also given instructions to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Wazirganj." "Strict action will be taken against him, if he was found consuming alcohol," DM added.
New Delhi, Oct 05 (ANI): The triumphant Indian men's hockey team arrived at the Delhi airport on October 05. They returned to India after their Belgium tour. India won all five matches during the tour. They have beaten team Belgium by 2-0 in the opening match and registering 6-1 and 5-1 wins over Spain in the next two games, before finishing off their tour with two more wins. While speaking to ANI, Captain of men's hockey team, Manpreet Singh said, "We played against Belgium and Spain and won. Our confidence level is up. It will help us in qualifying rounds for Olympics. Called Threads, the standalone camera-first messaging app allows you to share photos, videos, Stories, with close friends from Instagram, the official release notes. Although Threads will be a standalone app, messages from close friends will also be visible in the main app's Direct section. Threads is available globally.
Hyderabad, Oct 05 (ANI): While addressing a gathering in Hyderabad on Article 370's abrogation, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Ram Madhav said, "Not every Kashmiri is anti-national, not every Kashmiri is a separatist. Mumbai, Oct 05 (ANI): In the first-ever NBA match in India, Indiana Pacers defeated Sacramento Kings 132-131 on Friday at the Dome, NSCI, SVP Stadium in Mumbai. These games are a part of both the team's pre-season matches. These two sides will face each other once again tomorrow. Kings dominated the first quarter of the match and they went into the break with a lead of 39-29. The team was able to maintain their lead in the second quarter and after the conclusion of the half, Kings had 72 points to their credit as compared to Pacers' 59. In the third quarter, Pacers changed the outlook of the match as they scored three-pointers and two-pointers to reduce Kings' lead to just one point. However, Kings came back into the match and they finished the third quarter with a lead of five points. The quarter finished with the scoreline at 97-92 in favour of the Kings.
