While addressing at the centenary convocation, PM Modi said, "Efforts in higher education aimed not only towards opening new institutes but also to ensure governance reforms and gender, social participation." "Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) were given more power. National Medical Commission formed for transparency in education," he added at Mysore University convocation.

Ludhiana (Punjab)/ Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 19 (ANI): In wake of COVID-19 pandemic, schools partially reopened in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab except containment zones on October 19. However, schools have to followed proper guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The schools will run in shifts and 50% students will be called in every class on day one and the remaining 50% the next day. UP, Punjab and Sikkim has partially reopened their schools from today onwards while many states are still deciding for reopening schools amid COVID-19.
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 19 (ANI): Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan observed a two-hour 'silent protest' in Bhopal on October 19. He was protesting against the former MP CM and Congress leader Kamal Nath over his remarks wherein he referred BJP leader Imarti Devi as 'item'. Other ministers of the state and leaders of the party were also present.

First, Digvijay Singh had said something about Congress leader Meenakshi Natrajan which I don't remember, now Kamal Nath called BJP's Imarti Devi an 'item' while Ajay Singh called her 'Jalebi'. Congress never respects women."
Gopalganj (Bihar), Oct 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi's doppelganger, Abhinanandan Pathak is all set to take the plunge into politics by contesting in Bihar elections 2020. Abhinanandan will be contesting from from Hathua constituency in Gopalganj district. The 53-year-old aspires to become the Chief Minister of Bihar. Abhinanandan is contesting against four-time MLA Bihar's social welfare minister Ramsevak Singh. Pathak said, "I have filed nomination from Vanchit Samaj Party in Hathua constituency. This is battle for progress. After winning the election in Hathua constituency, I will try to become the chief minister of the state with people's blessing by touching their feet. On this seat it is going to be battle between the rich and the poor."

While referring to Imarti Devi, Kamal Nath said, "Yeah kaun item hai?' BJP leader Imarti Devi broke into tears while speaking to ANI. In her reply said, "What's my fault if I was born in a poor family? What is my fault if I belong to Dalits? I want to appeal to Sonia Gandhi, who is also a mother, to not keep such people in her party. If such words will be used for women then how can any woman move forward?"
Dholpur (Rajasthan), Oct 19 (ANI): Video of the fatal attack on BJP's minority front district president and former Vice Chairman Mushtaq Qureshi has gone viral. In the viral video about a dozen masked youth came in a car on Highway No.3 with sticks in their hands. Miscreants brought him out of his house and started thrashing him with sticks on road. Mushtaq is in a critical condition and has been admitted to Agra's hospital.
Ballia (UP), Oct 19 (ANI): Days after a 46-year-old man was killed in a firing incident in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, UP Police Special Task Force (STF) brought the main accused, Dhirendra Singh to district police station. He will be produced before court tomorrow. Dhirendra was arrested earlier on October 18 from Polytechnic Crossing in Lucknow. The firing incident took place over a dispute at a meeting for selection of ration shops in Durjanpur village.

Anantnag (J-K), Oct 17 (ANI): Indian Army 19 RR in collaboration with Pune based NGO, Aseem foundation organised a women's cricket tournament in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. 4 women cricket teams participated from Anantnag and Kulgam districts in the tournament held at Sports Stadium Dooru Shahabad. Female cricketers hailed the initiative and urged the parents to support their children in pursuing their career in sports. Female Ranji Trophy player Rubiya Syed said that it is a happy moment for girls that Indian Army has organized this tournament. Rubiya said, "The matches that are taking place here are being conducted by the Army. The intension behind is that if any girl is coming out through these camps then will get a chance to go to Pune and be a part of academies. So, it's a matter of happiness for us." Dumka (Jharkhand), Oct 17 (ANI): A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Jharkhand. The heinous crime happened in Ramgarh Police Station limits of Dumka district. "The body has been sent for post mortem. Investigation is underway," a police official said.

Idol makers have taken loans to provide bread and butter to their families. They claimed that season which used to be worth Rs. 20,000-Rs. 30,000 is not even touching Rs. 5, 000. One of the Idol makers said, "Comparatively, the work is far less than last year. Our season used to be of Rs. 20,000 - Rs. 30, 000, now idols worth Rs. 5, 000 are also not getting sold." First day of Navratri is being observed on October 17.
Firozabad (UP), Oct 17 (ANI): A BJP leader was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad on October 17 by bike-borne assailants. Leader DK Gupta was shot outside his shop in Narkhi Police Station limits. Police arrived at the spot to take situation into control. Relatives named a suspect who had earlier threatened Gupta over the enmity due to 'pradhan' election. Police investigation is underway.
