Activists accuse Pakistan for genocide of Sindhi people

Geneva (Switzerland), Mar 16 (ANI): Sindhi activists have accused Pakistan for its deliberate attempt to do away with Sindhi people as political activists are routinely being targeted, whereas the indigenous culture and language in Sindh is jeopardized. Speaking at a side event on the human rights situation in Sindh during the 37th Session of UN Human Rights Council, the Sindhi activists exposed Pakistan's oppressive policies in its Sindh province, which contributes to 70 percent of the country's GDP. Lakhu Luhana, Secretary General, World Sindhi Congress, while addressing the gathering said that "Pakistan Army fearlessly abduct people in Sindh in the daylight withour any remorse". Pedestrian bridge collapse claims 6 lives at Florida University

Florida (USA), Mar 16 (ANI): At least six people died and several others got injured in a pedestrian bridge collapse at Florida International University in western Miami Dade County. The collapse trapped several cars beneath it. Firefighters rushed to the spot to rescue the trapped people. Paramedics were deployed to treat people injured in the accident. The bridge spanned over several lanes of traffic connecting the university with the city of Sweetwater. Further details are awaited.

Renowned Kashmiri Activist Shabir Choudhry joins UKPNP

Geneva (Switzerland), Mar 16 (ANI): Well-known Kashmiri Activist Shabir Choudhry has joined the United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP), saying that he intended to advance the cause of united and independent Jammu and Kashmir with a democratic, liberal and secular society. 9 dead in blast near Nawaz Sharif's residence

Lahore (Pakistan), Mar 15 (ANI): At least nine people including five policemen were killed in a suicide attack that took place at a police check post near a religious gathering at Raiwind on Wednesday. Reportedly, the attack took place near the residence of Pakistan's ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. 20 others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up at Nisar Police check-post near the Tableeghi, as reported by the Dawn.

US witnesses National Walkout Day to demand action on gun control

Bhandari takes charge as Nepal President for second term

Kathmandu (Nepal), Mar 15 (ANI): Nepal's first woman President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has taken charge as the Nepal President for the second term. Bhandari took oath on Wednesday amid a procession, organised in President's Residence Shital Niwas. Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli administered the oath taking ceremony, in the presence of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and incumbent Vice- President Nanda Bahadur Pun and the House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara. According to the Election Commission of Nepal, President Bhandari of the Left Alliance garnered 39,275 votes. Her competitor, Laxmi Rai of the opposition Nepali Congress party secured 11,730 votes. EC will elect the vice president on 23rdmarch. Nepal's new constitution, promulgated in 2015, has the provision of the federal structure and it has completed the marathon election of local bodies, Provincial Council and the Parliament, along with the election for the National Assembly in the year of 2017-18.

UK's response to chemical weapon attack is not enough, says widow of KGB agent

London (United Kingdom), Mar 15 (ANI): The widow of the former Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti (KGB) agent Alexander Litvinenko, who was assassinated in London in 2006, Alexander Litvinenko, says Britain's response to the current crisis with Russia doesn't go far enough. She acknowledges the reaction by Prime Minister Theresa May's government to the Sergei Skripal incident was faster and more direct than in the case of her husband, Russia was not playing by the UK's "rules." Baloch activists raise issue of human rights violation by Pakistan at UNHRC

Geneva (Switzerland), Mar 15 (ANI): Baloch activists, Muhammad Jawad and Abdul Nawaz Bugti, raised issue of human rights violations and state terrorism committed by Pakistan in Balochistan, at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Activists highlighted the atrocities committed by Pakistan against women and children of Balochistan. "The Baloch live in stone age, despite of abundance of resources," said activist Abdul Nawaz Bugti. "300,000 people have been displaced, tortured and killings of people in Balochistan has become a common practice," he said. They appealed the United Nations to investigate the situation of the people living in the region. Another Baloch activist Muhammad Jawad reiterated similar sentiments.

Angela Merkel sworn-in as German Chancellor for 4th term

Geneva (Switzerland), Mar 14 (ANI): On the 37th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Director of European Foundation for South Asian Studies (EFSAS) expressed his concern for Kashmiris and said that they are worried that the Kashmiris will ever get peace or not. He said, "We, the common Kashmiris, have rejected Pakistan's merchandise of Terror and Jihad in Kashmir. Yet, we worry, whether peace will ever return when Pakistan will blatantly continue exporting Terrorism?" Drawing attention of the Council to the prevailing situation in Kashmir, he said, "The recent surrender of a footballer-turned militant has inspired dozens of other young Kashmiri boys to return home as well. Short films, posters on persecution of Christians in Pakistan showcased in Geneva

Geneva (Switzerland), Mar 14 (ANI): Short films depicting the persecution of the Christian minority in Pakistan was showcased during the 37th session of United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council in Geneva. A special screening of short films at Broken Chair, outside the UN office, highlighted the plight of the Christian minority in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as they continue to remain victims of Islamic fundamentalism and state atrocities. Christians stood only two-three percent of Pakistan's total population who are being persecuted under the infamous blasphemy law. Pakistan's blasphemy laws date back to the military dictatorship of General Muhammad Zia ul Haq. In 1980, making a derogatory remark against any Islamic personage was defined as a crime under Pakistan's Penal Code Section 295, punishable by three years in prison.

Sick and injured start leaving Syria's besieged Ghouta

Ghouta (Syria), Mar 14 (ANI): Sick and injured civilians left a rebel enclave in Syria's eastern Ghouta on March 13 as part of the first medical evacuation since a massive assault on the area began nearly a month ago. Men, women and children waited in the town of Douma for evacuation in Syrian Red Crescent buses. Syrian government forces have captured swathes of eastern Ghouta, a pocket of satellite towns and farmland, splintering it into three separate zones in recent days. For months, the United Nations has pleaded with authorities to allow the evacuation of hundreds of patients, including children with cancer. The Ghouta enclave is home to nearly 4, 00,000 people, under army siege since 2013 without enough food, water, or medicine, the world body says.
