Chinese scientists clone 2 monkeys for 1st time

Shanghai (China), Jan 25 (ANI): For the first time, Chinese scientists have cloned monkeys using the same technique that produced a sheep named Dolly, two decades ago, breaking a technical barrier that could open the door to copying humans. Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua are the first non-human primates to be cloned from a non-embryonic cell using a process called somatic cell nuclear transfer. The identical long-tailed monkeys were born eight and six weeks ago. The Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Neuroscience in Shanghai expects more births in coming months as it took 127 eggs to produce the clones. The work brings the prospect of human cloning closer, though the team says that's not their intention. Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua are being bottle-fed and are growing normally.
