Gardez (Afghanistan), Oct 18 (ANI): As many as 60 people were killed and hundreds were injured after Taliban militants attacked a number of government buildings across the country on Tuesday. The deadliest attack occurred in eastern city of Gardez. Two Taliban suicide car bombers struck a police training centre, before gunmen stormed in. Security forces succeeded in killing at least five of the attackers while more than 20 officers died in the assault. One of victims of the attack told he was at the barber shop when he heard a loud explosion. His hands and head were injured and several other causalities were reported in the area. The militants also attacked in Ghazni province where they set off armored vehicles packed with explosives near the governor's office, killing dozens.
Washington D.C. (United States), Oct 18 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump pitched a tax reform plan at a conservative think tank in Washington D.C., asking members of the Heritage Foundation for their help in passing his plan through Congress. Earlier in the day, Senate Republicans scrambled to ensure support for a budget resolution vital to Trump's drive to overhaul the U.S. tax code, as one Republican fiscal hawk announced he might vote against the measure.
Spain, Oct 18 (ANI): The leaders of Catalonia's two main separatist groups were put behind bars on Tuesday and the trial for sedition is pending as Spain's worst political crisis in decades deepens. Protests broke out in various areas on Monday after they were imprisoned and a government walk-out was held on Tuesday. Catalonia is refusing to back down on independence and Madrid has asked Catalan leaders to renounce its symbolic declaration of independence by October 19. It is highly likely that Spain will impose direct rule on the autonomous region. Meanwhile, Catalonia's police chief remains under investigation after he was accused of failing to order his force to impose a ban on an independence referendum last month. The two pro-independence leaders who have been jailed are accused of helping to orchestrate protests. The Catalan government accused Madrid of taking political prisoners likening it to life under dictator General Franco, when Catalan culture was suppressed.
Unites States, Oct 18 (ANI): A federal judge blocked President Donald Trump's third attempt to impose travel restrictions on individuals entering the United States. The open-ended ban that was announced last month, targeted people from Libya, Somalia, Chad, Iran, Syria, Yemen, and North Korea and certain government officials from Venezuela. U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson said in his ruling, on Tuesday, that the policy "suffers from precisely the same maladies as its predecessor: it lacks sufficient findings that the entry of more than 150 million nationals from six specified countries would be 'detrimental to the interests of the United States." The White House immediately hit back in a statement calling the court order dangerously flawed. It also mentioned that it undercuts the President's efforts to keep the American citizens safe. The ban was a latest version of a policy, which was first introduced by executive order in January and originally targeted seven Muslim-majority count

Kathmandu (Nepal), Oct 17 (ANI): A unification wave is sweeping across Nepali politics as the merger between the two democratic parties, Nepali Congress (NC) and Nepal Loktantrik Frorum (NLF) took place in Kathmandu on Monday. Bijay Kumar Gachhadar had left NC and joined the Nepal Loktantrik Forum a decade ago. A former Congress leader, Gachhadar, had won elections in 1991, 1994 and 1999 under the NC banner and he joined the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum led by Upendra Yadav in 2008 after being expelled by the NC. After the announcement of the merger agreement between the Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist and the Maoist Center some weeks ago, many other fringe parties have come under the flag of different parties. With the formation of the communist alliance, other parties are now in attempt to make alliance to contest in the upcoming polls.
New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday sent Diwali wishes ahead of the festival of lights. Trudeau took to his Twitter handle to send Diwali greetings. The prime minister tweeted a picture of himself lighting the lamp during the celebrations in the city of Ottawa. Members of the Indian diaspora and his Cabinet were also present to mark the occasion. Trudeau captioned the picture as: "Diwali Mubarak! We're celebrating in Ottawa tonight. #HappyDiwali"
Portugal/Spain: Nearly 30 people have died as wildfires rage through parched farmlands and forests in Portugal and Spain. Twenty-seven of those deaths coming in Portugal, where authorities say they are still battling about 145 blazes. Around 100 fires are still blazing in Spain. Lisbon has declared a state of emergency in territory north of the Tagus river, about half of its landmass.

(United States), Oct 17 (ANI): Days after U.S. envoy to the United Nations Nikki Haley informed that people are going to see U.S. stay in the deal, President Donald Trump said that 'total termination' of the Iran nuclear deal is a 'real possibility'. President Trump said the Iran deal was something that had to be done and he will see what phase two is. He added: "phase two might be positive or it might be very negative, it might be a total termination, that is a very real possibility, some would say that is a greater possibility."
Mogadishu (Somalia), Oct 17 (ANI): Somalia's deadliest attack in a decade killed more than 300 people after twin bomb explosions in Mogadishu. The death toll steadily increased since Saturday, when the blasts exploded at two busy junctions in the capital city. No organisation has claimed responsibility for the blasts but Islamist militant group al-Shabaab, which is allied to al-Qaeda, has staged regular attacks in the country. The weekend attacks are the bloodiest since the group began its insurgency against Somalia's UN-backed government in 2007. A spokesman for the Aamin Ambulance service informed that it was proving difficult for people to find their friends and relatives as they were just finding unrecognisable body parts. A doctor at Mogadishu's Madina hospital said 258 deaths have been recorded by them out of which 160 bodies could not be recognised and were buried by the government on Sunday.
Scotland (U.K.), Oct 16 (ANI): A coastguard helicopter on a training exercise spotted a pet dog that had been swept out to sea and helped lifeboat colleagues rescue it. The Cockerpoo had gone for a swim at Cummingston in north-west Scotland, but soon got into difficulties. Crew on the helicopter guided a lifeboat from nearby Findhorn to the dog, which was in the water for around an hour. The dog was unharmed by the ordeal and was reunited with its owners on the shore.
California (United States), Oct 16 (ANI): At least 40 people were killed within one week due to the deadly California fires. The authorities hope weaker winds will help more than 10,000 firefighters battle the deadliest blazes in California history, which have destroyed thousands of structures in one of the state's worst natural disasters in years. Fast-moving fires, spread by shifting winds, forced thousands more to evacuate their homes on Saturday as the death toll over the week rose to 40, with hundreds missing.
Kathmandu (Nepal), Oct 16 (ANI): The political parties of Nepal contesting for the upcoming polls for parliament and the province have filed the closed list of proportional representation to the Election Commission on Sunday. Willing to contest the upcoming elections; altogether 88 parties have applied to the EC. According to the EC, the election law has a provision to field 110 candidates for parliamentary elections while 220 seats are fixed for provincial assembly election under the PR category. EC have set time, from 10 AM to 5 PM, to file candidacy. As per the schedule released by Election Commission, 32 districts out of 75 will go for polls in the first phase of election followed by a second in duration of 20 days covering 45 districts on 26 November and 7 December respectively. The final number of parties registering for the PR electoral system is expected to be released by Monday evening.

California (U.S.A), Oct 16 (ANI): With over 10,000 firefighters still battling the deadly wildfires in California, officials are inspecting some evacuated areas in Somona County to see if it is safe for residents to return. Two of the three deadliest blazes - the Tubbs Fire and the Atlas Fire - were more than half contained by Sunday. Though fire officials say strong winds that had fanned flames had largely died down but Napa and Sonoma residents should remain vigilant. The wide-spreading lethal fires in north of San Francisco still remains a danger and thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate their homes. The flames have killed at least 40 people since the fires broke out and officials say the death toll is expected to rise.
Hossegor (France), Oct 15 (ANI): Brazilian Gabriel Medina and American Carissa Moore claimed wins at the World Surf League (WSL) stop Saturday (October 14) in Hossegor, France. In the men's Quiksilver Pro event Medina made easy work of American runner-up Sebastien Zietz in the final with his two best rides combining for a score of 16.00 points (out of 20) to Zietz's 9.30. Medina earned his win earlier in the day when he narrowly outdueled American John John Florence in the semi-final by a score of 16.40 to 16.00. Alicante (Spain), Oct 15 (ANI): Team MAPFRE won the first point scoring race of the 2017/18 Volvo Ocean Race in Spain's Alicante on Saturday. To take lead, MAPFRE peeled away from their rivals and sailed alone up the right side of the course. MAPFRE then stretched their lead to just under a minute at the bottom gate and held on until the end of the race, finishing more than a minute faster than closest challenger, Dongfeng Race Team.
Kathmandu (Nepal), Oct 15 (ANI): The Nepal Parliament had completed its tenure and as per the Constitutional provisions it has been dissolved. But, certain grievances of disgruntled parties remained on board. The Speaker of the House, Onsari Gharti Magar, highlighted the achievements and work that was completed under the outgoing Constituent Assembly. The Parliament turned Constituent Assembly have promulgated the first democratic constitution in 2015, but it tore the country into two parts. The Madhesh based parties demanded more inclusion in the newly promulgated constitution and sought an amendment to it but failed, though it was tabled lately and amended once. As per the newly promulgated constitution, the term of the incumbent parliament ends a day before the candidates file their nomination for the House of Representatives election. The Sher Bahadur Deuba government has called for the provincial center and the House of Representatives elections in two phases, which is to be held
Mogadishu (Somalia), Oct 15 (ANI): A huge truck bomb, followed by a smaller car bomb, exploded in Somalia's capital city of Mogadishu on Saturday, killing at least 22 and destroying several buildings. First the major truck bomb exploded on the busy street of Mogadishu and Two hours later a second car blast ignited in a different part of the capital. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, although the Islamist al Shabaab group has carried out regular attacks.

(U.S.), Oct 15 (ANI): Speaking upon the controversies surrounding BJP Chief Amit Shah's son, Jay Shah, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the upcoming Gujarat polls will prove public's support. Rubbishing the news surrounding Jay Shah's property assets, the Union Minister said that assembly polls in Gujarat will reflect the public's mandate, similar to Uttar Pradesh assembly polls' results after demonetisation. "Gujarat mein ek baar faisla ho jane dijiye. Jab chunaav parinam aayega to spasht ho jayega ki janta kiske saath hain", Jaitley said.
