Iraqi Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani to step down

Iraq, Oct 30 (ANI): Iraqi Kurdish President Massoud Barzani is to step down, just weeks after a referendum on Kurdish independence that he orchestrated backfired. Barzani's mandate was due to end next week, but he confirmed on Sunday that he would not seek to extend it. Iraqi Kurds voted overwhemingly to break away from Iraq in the September referendum. But Baghdad opposed the vote and retaliated with a military offensive that has left Kurdish autonomy in tatters. 29 killed by Al-Shabaab militants in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (Somalia), Oct 30 (ANI): At least 29 people were killed after terrorists attacked a hotel in Somalia's Mogadishu on Sunday. A car bomb rammed the gates of the hotel late afternoon, breaking down its defences following which gunmen stormed the building. The hotel was close to the presidential palace. Like others in the city, it was fortified and some Somali officials lived there for safety. At least 12 of the dead were police officers. Al-Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the attack. Two of the perpetrators blew themselves up after they were shot; three were caught alive. It's feared others may have been rescued from the hotel disguised as guests. Clever cockatoos knock crows off their perch

Vienna (Austria), Oct 28 (ANI): Research conducted by a team in Vienna indicates that the Goffin's cockatoo is smarter than crows as they demonstrate genuine creative thinking. Though crows have long been considered one of the most intelligent birds in the world, Goffin's cockatoo knocked the corvid off its perch. Vienna-based scientists tested a number of hand-raised Goffin's and observed that they could fashion tools to retrieve a food reward just like crows. While the debate still continues to discover the brainiest bird, both birds have clearly outwitted human children. Previous studies proved that human children couldn't reliably solve similar problems until they reached 8 years age.
