Vientiane (Laos) Sept 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi emplaned for Delhi from Laos' capital Vientiane after attending the two-day 14th ASEAN Summit. This was the third time that the Prime Minister attended the ASEAN summit and the East Asia Summit. Future directions under the three pillars of politico-security, economic and socio-cultural cooperation were the focus of talks at the ASEAN-India summit.

Japan introduces advanced technology in construction and communication

Japan, Sep 08 (ANI): Japan, the host of Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, is readying with enhancing its infrastructure in Great Tokyo area. The construction of the Tokyo-Gaikan Expressway, a ring shaped road connecting a 15 kilo-diameter area from the center of Tokyo, is also underway. In order to build tunnels on prefectural roads or under the interchanges, the shield method has been used. To pray for the safety of the construction work, a Shinto ritual ceremony was held. With the diameter at approximately 13 meters, the shield tunnel is a large section and the operation is done with the mud pressure shielding of excellent safety, even in locations of small volume of soil covering.The Tokyo-Gaikan Expressway is being constructed while various constructions are underway. With the consideration to the surrounding environment, the main line of the Tokyo Gaikan Expressway is a canal structure. The two traffic lanes on each side is box-shape and near the top of it is in a slit form.

U.S. will continue to stand with ASEAN region for protection of human rights: Barack Obama

Vientiane (Laos), Sep 08 (ANI): Asserting the importance for protection of human rights on universal platform, United States President Barack Obama on Thursday said the U.S. will continue to stand with the ASEAN region to fight terrorism and human trafficking. Addressing the ASEAN region and media, Obama stated that US and ASEAN have been significant bilateral partners and will deepen the cooperation on international challenges of climate weather and for borne fighters.

World leaders pose for group photograph at East Asia Summit

Vientiane (Laos), Sep 08 (ANI): The eminent world leaders gathered to pose for a group photograph at the 11th East Asia Summit in Vientiane on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders were among the heads of the state present in the centre of group photograph. This is the third time that the Prime Minister is attending the ASEAN summit and the East Asia Summit.

This is the eighth meeting of PM Modi and Barack Obama in the last two years. They met for the first time at the White House in September 2014 when PM Modi travelled to Washington DC at the invitation of Barack Obama.

PM Modi meets Myanmar's Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi

Vientiane, Laos, Sep 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Myanmar's Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi at the ASEAN Summit. India and Myanmar in August had signed two pacts to speed up construction of the Asian Trilateral Highway and agreed to cooperate in efforts to fight insurgency. India had also offered full support and backing to the new government in Myanmar formed in March this year, for its efforts to improve infrastructure.

ASEAN Summit will help combat common security threats to India and Laos: PM Modi

Vientiane (Laos), Sep 08 (ANI): Speaking at the 14th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on how ASEAN is central to India's 'Act East' policy, and that the ties between both Laos and India are a source of harmony in the region. He said that the substance of their strategic partnership covered the economic, security, socio-culture aspects. PM Modi further stated that the ASEAN India Plan of Action (2016-20) which has served both the nations well have had 54 activities been implemented through the course of this programme. The Prime Minister also spoke on export of terror, growing radicalisation and spread of extreme violence which are common security threats to the societies, adding that in the in face of growing traditional and non-traditional challenges, political security co-op is a key emergent pillar of India-Laos relationship.

India to ratify Paris accord at the earliest: Arvind Panagariya

Hangzhou (China), Sep 05 (ANI): Arvind Panagariya, head of the Niti Ayog, and India's Sherpa to the G20 summit, on Monday said that New Delhi plans to ratify the Paris accord to cut climate warming emissions as soon as possible. He said that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are very much on within the development context. PM Modi underlined UK's importance as partner despite Brexit: MEA

Hangzhou (China), Sep 05 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Monday informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Britain's new Prime Minister Theresa May for the first time, and held discussions on enhancing bilateral ties in the aftermath of the UK's decision to exit the EU. Swarup said that PM Modi emphasised on UK remaining an important partner despite Brexit, adding that efforts should be made to develop stronger ties and enhance cooperation. Swarup said that Prime Minister had invited UK PM to India, which she cordially accepted.

Advocate Jha highlights rising human rights violation in Nepal

Nepal, Sep 04 (ANI): Speaking on the rising issue of human rights violation and war time justice in Nepal, Supreme Court advocate Deependra Jha said the Maoist-led insurgency which lasted for a decade resulted in death of hundreds. Jha highlighted the impact of Maoist-led insurgency in the Madhesh. After the peace accord was signed on November 2006, the insurgency formally came to an end. The decade-long insurgency took lives nearly 13,246 people and about 10,000 people remain unaccounted.
