PM Modi pays floral tributes at mausoleum of first Turkmenistan president

Ashgabat, July 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited the mausoleum of the first president of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov. PM Modi also paid floral tributes to Niyazov in Turkmenistan's capital city Ashgabat. He also offered prayers at the mausoleum along with other dignitaries present there. Following the same, PM Modi laid wreath at the Independence monument in the city. Earlier, the prime minister had a bilateral meeting with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow following which the two leaders issued joint statements. PM Modi hailed 'long-standing' ties between the two nations and also proposed for Turkmenistan's membership in International North South Transport Corridor.

PM Modi unveils bust of Mahatma Gandhi, inaugurates Yoga Centre in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, July 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled the bust of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat. He also inaugurated a Traditional Medicine and Yoga Centre in Ashgabat. Speaking at the occasion, Modi said that yoga is a way of synchronizing mind, body and soul. He also appreciated the Turkmen government for taking Yoga to that level and spread it among its people. He added that this way yoga will be established in all Central Asian countries.

PM Modi holds discussions with Turkmenistan President Berdimuhamedov

Ashgabat, July 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held talks with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, before the commencement of the delegation level talks. "Discussing India-Turkmenistan ties with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov," his office tweeted. Later in the day, both the leaders reviewed the full range of bilateral relations during their delegation level talks. "Building an important relationship. Delegn level talks led by PM and President review the full range of bilateral relns," MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted. Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in Ashgabat yesterday on the fourth leg of his Central Asian tour, was earlier in the day accorded a ceremonial welcome by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the Oguzkhan Palace in Ashgabat.

Thousands march in Pakistan on annual Al Quds Day

Karachi, July 11 (ANI): Thousands of Shi'ite Muslims marched in Pakistan's biggest city Karachi to mark Al Quds Day to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. The similar rallies were held in the capital Islamabad, Lahore, Sukkur and other cities. In Karachi, about five thousand men, women and children marched over US and Israeli flags spread out on the street chanting: "Down with Israel," "Down with America." It's an annual event celebrated by many Muslims on the last Friday of Ramadan, and is held to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Though it was not last Friday in Pakistan, because the country started Ramadan a day after many Middle Eastern and European countries due to late sighting of Ramadan crescent, but Pakistanis marked Al Quds day along with other countries. The clerics protested the killings of innocent Palestinians by Israeli forces. Pak think tank says country should take Indian intervention matter to UN human rights council

Islamabad, July 11 (ANI): One of Pakistan's top thinktanks, the Research Society of International Law Pakistan (RSIL) stressed that any country providing training, sponsoring visits and giving any form of support to any person, anywhere in Pakistan, constitutes unlawful interference, which is in violation of international law. Ahmer Bilal Soofi, President RSIL and former Law Minister, giving a detailed briefing on the legal aspects of Indian intervention in Pakistan, said providing of logistic facilities and allowing its diplomatic assets to be used by militant nonstate actors against Pakistan, and intervention in the form of threats to use force against Pakistan squarely violated Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. PM Narendra Modi departs for Ashgabat

Ufa, July 10 (ANI): After completing his successful visit to Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Ashgabat the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan in Central Asia. Earlier in the day PM Modi met his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif for a bilateral meeting in Ufa city of Russsia. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, raising hopes of a thaw in frosty ties between the South Asian rivals. The two leaders shook hands amicably and gave a positive sign that the tensions facing the two nation's borders may get resolved after discussions. PM Modi is on an eight-day tour to five Central Asian countries and to Ufa in Russia.

Indian and Pak Foreign Secretaries on PM Modi and PM Sharif's meeting

Ufa, July 10 (ANI): The Ministery of External Affairs on Friday informed that PM Narendra Modi and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif had a productive meeting on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Ufa. Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said that both sides agreed to discuss and expedite the Mumbai attack trials. Jaishankar also informed that PM Modi has accepted Sharif's invitation to visit Pakistan for SAARC Summit in 2016. Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said that both the leaders condemned terrorism in all its forms and agreed to cooperate to eliminate the menace from South Asia.

Muslims flock to markets in Dhaka ahead of Eid

Dhaka, July 10 (ANI): Bangladeshi Muslims have been visiting markets in droves in preparation of Eid-al-Fitr next week. In capital Dhaka, streets were full of people, many in cycle-rickshaws as they flocked to hawkers and shopping malls to buy new clothing ahead of the festival. The sale of the traditional sari drape saw a rise as Muslim women crowded stores. Salesmen were seen draping saris around themselves to entice women to buy the clothes. The festival of Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the next lunar month called Shawwal. As part of the celebrations, Muslims buy new clothes, skullcaps, traditional Ramadan sweets and prayer material. However, the season also brought inconvenience to commuters who wanted to go home for Eid. Many were seen waiting in long lines to get tickets at railway stations. Eid will be celebrated across the globe on July 19.

PM Modi meets Nawaz Sharif in Russia, holds bilateral talks

Ufa, July 10 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif for a bilateral meeting in Ufa city of Russsia. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, raising hopes of a thaw in frosty ties between the South Asian rivals. The two leaders shook hands amicably and gave a positive sign that the tensions facing the two nation's borders may get resolved after discussions. This is the first structured meeting between the two leaders since Sharif attended Modi's swearing-in event in Delhi last May. According to reports, PM Modi will, during the talks, strongly raise India's concerns on terror and the release of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhavi with Pakistan. The meeting comes a day after Pakistani troops had fired at a Border Security Force forward post in Kashmir. This was the second such incident in the past week.

NPCI ties up with JCBI to issue RuPay card in India

Tokyo, July 9 (ANI): Japan's JCB International and National Payments Council of India (NPCI) have entered into a strategic partnership for JCB Acceptance and Card Issuing in India. NPCI provides RuPay, a domestic card payment network countering Visa and MasterCard. The agreement, which will initially enable the JCBI cardholders to transit in all ATMs and credit card swipe machines in India, will eventually enable the Indian issuers to come out with cards that can be accepted globally without going through the visa or MasterCard network. In the first stage of the agreement between the JCBI and NPCI, over 10 lakh card-accepting terminals and 2,00,000 ATMs across India will be made available to the JCBI cardholders. Around 165 million RuPay domestic cards have been issued by 426 banks in India.
