Activists accuses Pakistani intelligence agencies for Sabeen Mahmud's murder

Karachi, April 29 (ANI): Even after five days ever since Sabeen Mahmud was murdered, the investigators have made no progress what so ever in the probe. This comes even as civil society and activists continue to protest seeking proper investigation into the incident. But many believe the probe could be just an eye-wash, as one of the country's most powerful establishment, the ISI itself is under suspicion for Mahmud's murder. Mahmud was shot dead late on Friday by unidentified gunmen on motorbikes, hours after she hosted a talk featuring prominent Baloch campaigner Mama Qadeer Baloch. The talk which was originally scheduled to take place in Lahore University earlier this month, was abruptly called off after pressure from government. Following her murder, the Pakistan Army had in a rare statement condemned the killing and promised assistance in the probe.

Mahmud ran an open forum in Karachi called 'The Second Floor' for discussions on human rights abuses and other civil rights issues. She was shot by unidentified gunmen late on Friday, hours after she hosted a seminar on the issue of rights violations in Balochistan.

Aerial views show extent of Nepal's devastation

Nepal, April 29 (ANI): Nepal's deadly earthquake has left behind a trail of destruction across the Himalayan kingdom. Aerial footage taken on Tuesday showed collapsed buildings in the capital, Kathmandu, and whole villages destroyed in the surrounding countryside, after Saturday's 7.9 magnitude quake. Nepal's prime minister warned the death toll could reach as high as 10,000. In Kathmandu, as elsewhere, thousands are sleeping on pavements, roads and in parks, many under makeshift tents. The situation is worse in remote rural areas. Highways have been blocked by landslides, and many villages and communities are without water and electricity, and villagers are surviving on salvaged food and with no outside help. While aid has begun arriving in the capital, including food, medical supplies, tents and dogs trained for rescue efforts, the authorities are struggling to deliver relief further afield.

Kathmandu, April 29 (ANI): Earthquake survivors in Kathmandu's relief camps faced more misery as rainfall seeped through their make-shift tents. Fresh rains lashed earthquake-ravaged Nepal, where massive rescue and relief operations are underway. Rainfall, a series of aftershocks, severe damage from the quake, creaking infrastructure and a lack of funds have slowed rescue efforts in the mountainous country. Baltimore erupts in riots after funeral of African American who died in police custody

Baltimore, April 28 (ANI): Protesters hurled bricks, looted businesses and set fires in Baltimore in violence that injured at least seven police officers following the funeral of a 25-year-old black man who died after he was injured in police custody. The riots broke out just a few blocks from the funeral of Freddie Gray and then spread through parts of Baltimore in the most violent US demonstrations since looting in Ferguson, Missouri, last year. A CVS pharmacy that had been looted was on fire on Monday evening as police moved into an area where rioters sacked businesses and destroyed vehicles. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan put the state's National Guard on alert and additional state troopers were sent to Baltimore. The mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake later said that she will impose a curfew beginning Tuesday 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
