Foreign Minister lauds Indian community for contributing to Oman's economy

Muscat, Feb 18 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj lauded Indian community in Oman for boosting the economy of oil-rich Gulf nation. She was addressing the Indian diaspora in Muscat. Swaraj arrived in Oman on Tuesday for holding bilateral talks with the nation's leadership. She is on two-day official visit at the invitation of the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, and will discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations, regional and international issues of mutual interest. Swaraj also thanked the NRIs (non-resident Indians) for taking part in large number in the diaspora event in India's western state of Gujarat in January. During her visit Swaraj will hold extensive talks with her Omani counterpart Abdullah on Wednesday (February 18). The two are also likely to discuss Modi's possible visit to Oman later this year.

Bangladesh PM seeks citizens' support to fight political violence

Dhaka, Feb 18 (ANI): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has appealed to citizens to unite against forces igniting political violence in the country. Hasina was participating in a discussion titled, 'BNP-Jamaat's Arson Violence-Blood Stained Bangladesh' when she broke down into tears watching a documentary where the victims of political violence narrated their ordeal. She added that people, who fell prey to the violence allegedly ignited by BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami, need to be recognized as martyrs. The discussion was attended by ministers, advisers to the Prime Minister, parliament members, diplomats, heads of different foreign missions, vice-chancellors and teachers of various universities, editors and senior lawyers.

At least seven dead in Pakistan police headquarters attack

Lahore, Feb 17 (ANI): At least seven people died on Tuesday (February 17) in a large explosion and gunfire at a regional police headquarters in Pakistan's city of Lahore, police said. The explosion came from a car near the police building, said spokeswoman Nabeela Ghazanfar, adding it was unclear if the attack involved a suicide bomber. She said three people were dead but a police officer said at least seven had died, citing colleagues in the area. It was unclear how many of the dead were police. An unidentified policeman at the scene said it looked like a suicide attack. The blast was followed by rapid gunfire, witnesses said. Pakistan has suffered two major militant attacks in the past month.

Kashmiri Nationalists Blame Pakistan for Exporting Terror

Thousands march across Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir on Kashmir Solidarity Day

Muzaffarabad/ Karachi, Feb 06 (ANI): Thousands of people across Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir took to the streets to reiterate diplomatic, moral and political support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for the right to self-determination. Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed every year on February 5 by Pakistanis and Kashmiris across the world with the pledge to continue support for the Kashmiri people's struggle against Indian occupation of the state since October 27, 1947. Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in their messages on the occasion, urged the international community to fulfill its promise to the Kashmiris, of granting them their right to self-determination through a free and fair plebiscite. Bangladesh Gonojagoron Mancha protest against political violence throughout the nation

Dhaka, Feb 06 (ANI): Bangladesh Gonojagoron Mancha (people's resurgence platform) took to streets in Dhaka to protest a spate of political violence and militancy in the country. Activists gathered at the Shahbagh area with the Bangladesh flag and chanted slogans against the violence that has gripped the nation since the start of this year. The country has been in the grip of an indefinite transport blockade from January 05 since opposition Bangladesh National Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia made the announcement after being prevented from holding a rally in the capital. At least 53 have died in attacks in past one month as vehicles are targeted with bombs. On this day in 2013, Gonojagoron Mancha was formed by thousands of protestors to protest the life imprisonment of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah, who convicted of genocide during 1971 liberation struggle from Pakistan.

At least nine dead after TransAsia airplane crashes into Taipei River

London, Feb 04 (ANI): A Taiwanese TransAsia Airways flight with more than 50 people aboard hit a bridge and crashed into a river near the capital Taipei on Wednesday morning, leaving at least nine people dead. According to media reports, the domestic flight ATR-72, carrying 53 passengers and five crew members, had just taken off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was headed to the outlying Kinmen islands, just off the coast of south-east China. Reportedly, the plane lost contact with flight controllers before it crashed into Keelung River near the city's downtown Sungshan airport. Rescue teams rushed to help survivors of the plane crash. Many passengers were wounded in the mishap. Reports suggest that there are still people trapped inside the plane.

India, China and Russia hold key trilateral talks to deepen cooperation

Pakistani Shi'ites protest against Shikarpur mosque blast that killed at least 49 people

Islamabad, Feb 02 (ANI): Dozens of Shi'ite held rallies in Pakistani capital Islamabad to condemn mosque bombing in Shikarpur that killed at least 49 worshippers and injured dozens of others on Friday. Thousands of mourners in Shikarpur city on Saturday held a mass funeral for victims of the bomb blast in a Shi'ite mosque. The blast occurred during Friday prayers. The Islamabad protesters held banners and placards denouncing the bombing and demanding the perpetrators to be hanged publicly. At another protest in Islamabad by ex-graduates of Quaid-e-Azam University, the protesters demanded the government provide quick justice to the families of the victims. China opens additional route to Kailash-Mansarovar in Tibet: MEA

Beijing, Feb 02 (ANI): China agreed to open an additional route to Hindu pilgrimage in Tibet through Nathu La pass, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin during Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj visit to Beijing. Akbaruddin said devotees could undertake more comfortable journey by vans and busses to Kailash-Mansarovar, where Lord Shiva is believed to be residing in perpetual meditation state along with his wife Parvati. Swaraj and her Chinese counterpart decided to set up a contact group to discuss the modalities of Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Beijing later this year.
