From jail to parliament: Nepal's Tikapur carnage mastermind sworn-in as MP

Kathmandu (Nepal), Jan 04 (ANI): House of Representative member-elect from Kanchanpur-1, Resham Chaudhary, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) on Thursday. Speaker of House of Representatives, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, administered the oath of office to Chaudhary. Chaudhary is facing charges of murder, attempt to murder and robbery along with 56 others, and is an accused in the 2015 Tikapur riots. He also claimed the Tikapur incident to be a political one and suggested for the political resolution over the issue warning ethical violence might spread in the future. Chaudhary is the main accused in the lynching of eight police personnel and an infant in Tikapur of Kailali district in August 2015. Chaudhary won the House of Representative election from Kailali-1, securing more than double the votes secured by his rival Madan Kumar Shah.

This "Math Competition" was held in Thailand to solve the problem of advanced mathematics. 2 Vietnamese tourists killed in Giza blast

New Delhi, Dec 29 (ANI): A roadside explosion in Egypt claimed lives of two Vietnamese tourists and injured a dozen other tourists, the Egyptian Interior Ministry has confirmed. The Egyptian Interior Ministry stated that the tourist bus was occupied with two Egyptian citizens, including the bus driver and the other one representing the tourism company, while the rest of the passengers included 14 Vietnamese people. The Interior Ministry also said that further investigation into the matter is underway.

19 killed in protests against soaring bread, fuel prices in Sudan

New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): The agitation between the anti-riot police and protesters over rising bread and fuel prices in Sudan has claimed 19 lives, including two security personals and injured 219 people, the Sudanese government has confirmed. The Sudanese government had increased the price of bread from one ($0.02) to three Sudanese pounds ($0.063). Moreover, prices of fuel were reportedly doubled, which led to widespread agitation all over the North African country. Activists have called on people to take to the streets again over the next few days.

RJP-N blames incumbent government of ethnic discrimination

Kathmandu (Nepal), Dec 27 (ANI): The disgruntled Madhesh-based party, the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal, has blamed the incumbent government of discriminating the MPs on the basis of ethnicity. Rajendra Mahato, co- coordinator of the party during the first day of the third session of the parliament, alleged the incumbent government of discrimination referring to the delay in the release of MP Resham Chaudhary. The third session of the federal parliament of Nepal began from December 26after a gap of three months. This session of the parliament is also considered as the 'bill session' and it is majorly mandated to go through discussions of drafts of bills and their endorsements. As per the constitutional provision, laws inconsistent with the constitution either need to be amended or replaced by new ones within March 5, 2019 which marks the completion of one year of the first meeting of the federal parliament.

Mohajir lawmaker Ali Raza Abidi's assassination was masterminded by Pak intelligence agencies: Nadeem Nusrat

Washington DC (USA), Dec 27 (ANI): Voice of Karachi Chairman Nadeem Nusrat categorically accused Pakistan intelligence agencies for killing Mohajir lawmaker Ali Raza Abidi. In a hard hitting statement, Nusrat also his killing was not only due to his being an activist but because he was a Shia Muslim. In his attack on Pakistani military establishment, Nusrat said, "Ali Raza Abidi's assassination was masterminded by Pak intelligence agencies. Their hired mercenaries killed him. PoK, December 25, 2018:- These people who spent their entire career in a state of subservience to Islamabad directed government of Pakistan occupied Kashmir, are compelled to demonstrate against the same authority in order to demand the rightful share of their pension. Expressing their resentment, a large number of protestors gathered in Muzaffarabad and raised slogans against the officers of Azad Kashmir Logging and Sawmills Corporation also known as AKLASC demanding their salaries and pensions. The protests that have been seeking the payment of blocked salaries and pensions from the authorities for years have witnessed a sudden escalation of late with more and more people expressing solidarity with the former employees. Former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif sentenced to 7 years in prison

Islamabad (Pakistan), Dec 24 (ANI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been sentenced to seven years in prison by an accountability court in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference. Monday's sentence in the money laundering and tax evasion case came a day ahead of Sharif's 69th birthday. Dawn reported that the Sharif has also been charged with a fine of USD 2.5 million in the case. However, the bench, headed by Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik, acquitted him in the Flagship Investments reference. The Judge, had earlier turned down Sharif's request for more time in the two cases, as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had stated that granting more time could further delay verdict in the graft cases. Indonesia tsunami leaves 168 dead, 745 injured

Jakarta (Indonesia), Dec 23 (ANI): At least 168 people have lost their lives in the devastating tsunami that struck the Sunda Strait on Saturday night, with 745 people being reported as injured by Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency. Trump signs a prison reform bill into law

New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): US President Donald Trump signed 'First Step Act' into law which is a prison and sentencing reform bill, on December 20. According to CNN, the new law will turn federal prisons towards rehabilitation. The bill was passed in the Senate and in House earlier this week.
