Two Home Guards arrested for inmate's death

Deep Ram, a resident of Sarkaghat, District Mandi was convicted under section 302 of IPC for murder and was undergoing sentence in Nahan jail.

Ram sustained injuries in a brawl yesterday with two home guard on duty, following which he was taken to PGI, Chandigarh where he succumbed to his injuries, Sanjiv Lakhanpal, Additional SP of Sirmaur district said.

A case has been registered against the two home guards Jagdish and Pravesh, under various sections of IPC and have been arrested.

According to the police, there were some heated exchanges between the Home Guards and the inmate in the morning when Ram refused to stand in a queue for the morning tea and a scuffle ensued.

A judicial enquiry would also be conducted into the death of the inmate, the ASP said, adding that the victim's postmortem will also be conducted tomorrow.
