Cabinet approves extension of Gujarat Metro from GIFT City to Shahpur

The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved a 3.33-km extension of the existing North-South corridor of Gujarat Metro from GIFT City to Shahpur. In a statement, the government said that the project, which is scheduled to be completed in four years, includes three elevated stations. The decision was taken by the Union Cabinet, in its first meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Seva Teerth, the new PMO complex. "The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,067.35 crore. This extended corridor is expected to benefit approximately 23,702 passengers in 2029 and approximately 58,059 passengers in 2041," the statement stated. It said that this corridor will strengthen connectivity between Ahmedabad and GIFT region. Major multinational companies, educational institutions, and commercial centers located along the proposed route will directly benefit. This extension will also be beneficial to the daily commuters travelling between Ahmedabad and GIFT region for catering the travel need .

PM Modi flags off Meerut Metro, Namo Bharat train from UP's Shatabdi Nagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro services here on Sunday and address a public meeting, officials said. According to information received from the district administration, the prime minister will arrive at the Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad at 11 am. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will reach the helipad at Mohkampur near Shatabdi Nagar station by a state helicopter at 11.15 am. Modi's helicopter is scheduled to land at the same helipad at 11.30 am, where he will be received by the chief minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said his government is committed to the rapid expansion of rail connectivity across the country. One dead, 3 injured as Mumbai Metro line wall slab falls on vehicles

One person died and three others were injured after a slab of the girder bridge of under-construction metro rail line 4 collapsed on a few vehicles in Mumbai's Mulund area on Saturday afternoon, police and civic officials said. A slab of the parapet wall of the girder bridge fell near Johnson and Johnson factory on the arterial LBS Road some time after noon on an autorickshaw and a Skoda car, both of which were heavily damaged, they added. A fire brigade official identified the deceased as Ramdhan Yadav and the injured as Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40). Theft attempt damages signalling cables, slows Airport Line trains: DMRC

The trains on the Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line are being operated at a restricted speed between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations due to the damaged signalling cables after a theft attempt, officials said on Sunday. About 800 metres of signalling cables were cut during the attempt in the midsection between the two stations, disrupting the signalling system, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. The cut cable pieces were later found lying near metro pillar number 09 during inspection, it added. As a result, trains are being operated at a restricted speed of 25 kmph on the affected up line section towards New Delhi between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations, DMRC said. Services on the remaining stretch of the Airport Express Line are running normally, it said. India to leave US behind in terms of Metro rail network length: Khattar

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that India will soon overtake the US in terms of the length of the Metro rail network. Currently, India is in the third position as far as the total length of Metro rail corridors is concerned, he said. Bhopal has become the 26th city in the country to have Metro trains. Kolkata metro to run special night services on Blue line for Kali Puja

Metro Railway Kolkata will run special night services on the Blue line on October 20 on the occasion of Kali Puja, an official statement said on Friday. While the last train will leave from Dakshineswar station for Sahid Khudiram at 10:51 pm instead of the normal 9:28 pm, the last train from Sahid Khudiram will depart at 11 pm for Dakshineswar instead of 9:33 pm, the Metro Railway said in a statement. On October 20, 144 services (72 services on UP and DN sections each) will be run along the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-Sahid Khudiram) corridor instead of 272 services on other Mondays, but the special services will be run at night to enable thousands of devotees to attend the puja rituals at the two heritage Kali temples at Kalighat and Dakshineswar.

India to surpass US in metro connectivity soon: Manohar Lal Khattar

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said India will soon overtake the United States to become the second-largest country in metro rail connectivity. He was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Urban Conclave organised by the Kerala Local Self-Government Department (LSGD) here as part of framing an urban policy for the state. Khattar said India currently ranks third after China and the US in metro rail network length. At present, metro services are operational in 24 cities covering 1,065 km. Soon, we will surpass the US, which has 1,400 km of metro network. Five more projects, adding 955 km, are in the pipeline, he said. The minister said India's urbanisation rate, 20 per cent in the 1960s, had risen to 30 per cent by 2027. Mumbai's first metro line completes 11 years; served 1.11 bn commuters

Mumbai's first metro corridor, the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar line, has completed 11 years of operations, having transported more than 111 crore commuters since its launch in 2014. In a release issued earlier this week, Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) said that of the 12 stations on the 11.8-km corridor, Ghatkopar recorded the highest footfall with 30 crore commuters, followed by Andheri with 23 crore and Saki Naka with 11 crore. The current weekday ridership stands at around 5 lakh, with a peak of 5.47 lakh commuters, it added. The agency said that Metro Line 1, or Metro One, has made more than 12.6 lakh train trips, covering 1.45 crore km while maintaining 99.99 per cent punctuality and 99.96 per cent train availability.
