WHICH CAR?

BS Motoring Mumbai
This is a tough nut to crack - an auto SUV that would take CNG is difficult to find indeed. I can suggest the CRV but then it is expensive and I wouldn't want you to lose the engine warranty by installing a CNG kit.  I suggest you buy the Ford Endeavour diesel - you will get diesel economy though you will have to shift gears. If you think it is on the expensive side then wait for the new Toyota - though I don't know whether they will ever offer an automatic variant.  On the other hand, if size doesn't really matter to you, consider the brilliant new Honda City CVT - it is the best auto transmission in the country today, and the car is a breeze to drive. It will certainly be more economical than your current Ikon 1.6.  Second Chances  USED SANTRO OR WAGON R  I am looking for a second hand petrol car for around Rs 2 to 2.5 lakh. I will be driving about 15,000 km a year. I am not very keen on interior space. I have short listed the Wagon R and Santro, though I am not sure if I can get a Xing in my budget. Mileage is also a big consideration for me. Is it a good idea to buy from these car marts?

Sandeep Sharma, Pune

You should be able to find a decent used Wagon R or Santro for about Rs 1.6-2 lakh. The best place to buy is from a friend or from someone who is selling in a hurry.  Used car marts jack up the price and you don't get a good deal. So ask and look around, find a low mileage car (under 25,000 km) for your money. Ask your friends in Mumbai too
