General Motors India may bring in its Corsa small car into India by the year 2000.

Hyundais Santro will be here earlier, in October 98. Its being admired as a car that combines performance with looks.

The Telco small car, still unnamed, goes into production later this year. It has been indigenously developed but has global ambitions.

The Telco Safari, nicknamed the Indian Pajero by scribes, is ready and looking good. It advances on the familys Sierra and Estate.

Daewoos dArts will also hit the roads in the last quarter of 1998 and is another small car to watch out for.

 

Volvo, which has its trucks rolling out of its Bangalore plant this summer, would also like to bring its buses and is considering the New Sedan car for India.

Mercedes Benz has just launched its new E-class series in India, and the prices are a couple of lakhs less than speculated.

San Motors hopes to have two sports cars, the Star and Streak, ready by July, though obviously in limited volumes.

Audi will sell its A6 and A4 cars in India next month, joining others in the luxury segment.

The Kinetic car is drawing attention for its low price, and will be on the roads later this year.

The Honda City has been unveiled in India and is waiting in the wings to make its appearance on the roads, intended for the mid-rung.

Hindustan Motors tie-up with Mitsubishi will have the Lancer on the roads by the end of the year, and there is some excitement about the Ambassador being souped up too.

Ford Escort has its 1.6 litre version of the Ford Escort ready for India, and is considering a second car too.
