Ansaldo, GB to set up Rs 100-cr boiler unit

Ansaldo, a boiler manufacturer, in partnership with GB Engineering Enterprises (GB) is planning to set up a manufacturing facility at Tiruchi with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore.
B Pattabiraman, chairman, G B Industries, said that the new facility would manufacture pressure parts for the boiler industry and would be set up by Ansaldo GB Manufacturing Company, in which the two partners will have equal stake.
The facility will have a capacity of 7,000 tonnes or equivalent for super critical equipment and is likely to cater to Ansaldo, which services companies such as NTPC, NLC and other power majors.
Commenting on GB Engineering stake in Ansaldo Caldaie Boilers India Private Limited (ACB), Pattabiraman said, the company currently had a stake of 15 per cent in ACB and this would come down to less than one per cent gradually.
In September, engineering and construction company Gammon India announced the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in Sofinter Spa, the holding company of Ansaldo Caldaie.
ACBI undertakes jobs for building power projects in India. It gets designs from Ansaldo in Italy and outsources manufacturing to GB Engineering.
The Rs 120 crore GB Engineering Enterprises, established in 1980, is a manufacturer of boilers, boiler components, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, nuclear steam generator components and structurals for a range of industries.
