Arvind to double denim production shifts

Arvind Mills Limited will double its shifts at Santej and Naroda denim unit to increase the production.

The company has denim manufacturing capacity divided between two plants.The total capacity of 10 million metres per annum is divided between the two units located at Santej and Naroda.

With doubling the shifts, the company hopes to double its total Denim production to close to 20 million metres per annum. "Company would be focusing more on denim export after doubling its production," Srinivas Reddy from Adfactors PR Pvt Ltd told Business Standard on behalf of the company.

"By next fiscal 2006-07, company will double its shifts at Santej and Naroda units," claimed Reddy.

He also said that company will also recruit more employees and workers to increase the production. However, he did not disclose how many more would be recruited by the company for its denim production.

For last three to four months the prices of denim are under tremendous pressure.

"The prices in domestic market has already gone down to rupees six while in export market the prices fluctuate on the basis of international market," he informed.

Talking about the third quarter results, Reddy said, "Due to over capacity in the international as well as domestic market, the company witnessed five per cent dip in the sale in third quarter of current fiscal." he further said.

In the fourth quarter the sale would be more than the third quarter but may dip compared to previous year's fourth quarter.

But in next financial year, the sale of denim will be more as company is doubling its production in two units, he said.
