Avnet bets big on chip design services

Avnet Electronics, a global distributor of semiconductor and related electronic components to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), is betting big on its chip design services in India.

The firm, which undertakes third-party chip design services on a turnkey basis, has been witnessing growth in this segment over the last few years.

Avnet Asia Pacific operates with six design centres in Bangalore, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taiwan. The Bangalore centre undertakes activities relating to automotive, power management and industrial sectors.

"The Bangalore design centre is catering to both domestic and international customers. With India emerging as the preferred destination for chip design services, we are expecting more projects. We are also ramping up presence to meet the demand," Avnet India Country Head S Ramani said.

The company employs over 100 professionals in the country. A significant number of the staff are engaged in chip designing work.
