Barclays appoints Bret Packard as MD, Premier and Liabilities for emerging mkts

Barclays announced today the appointment of Bret Packard to the newly created role of managing director, premier and liabilities, Global Retail and Commercial Banking (GRCB) Emerging Markets.
Bret's experience includes deep international expertise in consumer banking acquired across a wide range of global markets.
Bret joins GRCB Emerging Markets after nearly 3 years as MD of Barclays Financial Planning and Premier Banking with Barclays UK Retail Banking operation. Prior to joining Barclays, Bret held various senior positions with Citigroup for 19 years with overall responsibility for the Asia Pacific Region Consumer Investments business spanning 11 countries.
Prior to that, he ran Citibank Japan’s Retail Branch Network and Consumer Investments Product organization after having overall sales responsibility for Asia Pacific’s mass affluent performance.
Prior to his work in the Asia Pacific Region, Bret held other senior roles within Citibank's Consumer Banking operation in the Western United States.
“A compelling Premier proposition and a clear Liabilities strategy are both fundamental to underpinning the future success of the GRCB Emerging Markets Retail business,” said Vinit Chandra, chief executive, GRCB Emerging Markets.
“There is a tremendous untapped potential in the emerging markets we cover, as long as the customers receive unique and unparallel service, which is exactly what Premier presents to our customers, and what the Barclays banking experience is all about”.
