Cadila Company Executes Sulfolane Export Order

Casil Health Products Ltd (CHPL), a group company of the Ahmedabad-based Cadila Pharmaceuticals conglomerate has recently executed Rs 1.5 crore worth sulfolane (tetramethylene sulfone) order from Chinese Petroleum Corporation,Taiwan.
CHPL is the only manufacturer of sulfolane in Asia. Having mainline applications such as aromatic extraction, acid gas treatment and extractive distillation, sulfolane is also in demand as a curing agent for epoxy resins, pharmaceutical applications and as emulsifier for photographic composition.
The technology of this product was developed by Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun (IIP) and with the commercialisation of this product, CHPL became the third manufacturer of sulfolane in the world.

At present, CHPL exports sulfolane to Jordan, Israel, Taiwan and the sultanate of Oman. The sulfolane manufacturing facility of CHPL is situated at Kadi, north Gujarat.
Sulfolane is also used in bulk drugs manufacturing in pharma industry and electronic applications. The present turnover of CHPL from sulfolane products is Rs 5 crore and the company is planning to increase the production capacity shortly.
The plant has been operating at its rated capacity since December 2001 and the total production volume of the plant is booked till May 2002, with confirmed orders.
Beside sulfolane manufacturing, CHPL is also engaged in the business of surgical gloves, diagnostics and other hospital disposables. The gloves plant of the company, certified by ISI, has also achieved 90 per cent of the production capacity recently, adds a company release.
