DuPont to cater to Indian ethnicware
DuPont's biobased 'Sorono' is stated to be useful in replacement of polyester, spandex and nylon in apparels like sarees, suit material and carpets

Global science and engineering company DuPont is getting ready for the commercial launch of its renewable fibre products for usage in Indian ethnicware, particularly sarees.
DuPont’s biobased ‘Sorono’ is stated to be useful in replacement of polyester, spandex and nylon in apparels like sarees, suit material and carpets.
“We see a great opportunity for bio-based solutions in India, and our new biosciences laboratories at the DuPont Knowledge Centre in Hyderabad are specifically focused on meeting the green aspirations of Indian consumers,” DuPont South Asia and Asean president, Balvinder Singh Kalsi, said.

The company on Thursday launched ‘DuPont Green Living Survey:India’, which stated that a majority of Indian consumers were familiar with green products and felt that biobased ingredients enhance the desirability of the product.
“We are working out to get some of these products ready and we will have a commercial launch soon,” Singh told mediapersons.
DuPont is developing biobased products for five categories- textile processing and clothing, personal hygiene and care, food and beverage packaging, renewable fibre and product and detergents.
DuPont has already launched some of these products and, according to company’s Asia Pacific regional business director Vikram Prabhu, over 25 Indian companies were currently utilising them. The poultry industry was stated to be the biggest user of its enzyme technology.
Talking about the findings of the survey, Prabhu said more than 63 per cent of the respondents were familiar with green products and of those, 85 per cent felt such products were better for the environment. Consumers below the age of 30 have shown highest level of familiarity (609 per cent).
With nearly 50 per cent of India’s population being below the age of 25, he expects a strong potential for green product adoption and demand growth.
