HC seeks report on permission to Essar Oil's staff colony

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Amedabad

Essar Oil Ltd (EOL) was granted permission for construction of residential colony in Vadinar, Jamnagar, only after a litigation was filed against it, a petitioner who had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging that the construction by company was illegal, told the Gujarat High Court on Thursday.

Based on the statement of the petitioner, Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala has directed the Vadinar Area Development Authority (VADA) to submit a detailed report on permission given to EOL, whether it was before the PIL or after.

The VADA has been given two weeks time to give its report.

The direction were issued after the petitioner's lawyer Vijay Nangesh informed the court that VADA has given permission to EOL for construction of residential colony after they filed the PIL. However, the company did not agree with the claim of the petitioner.

PIL was filed by one Shamji Chavda, who demanded that the construction be stopped and action be taken against the company authority.
