BUSINESS STANDARD

Hinduja TMT (HTMT), the holding company for the convergence business of the group, has bagged a three year call centre contract from a $2 billion integrated communication provider. Revenue contract could exceed Rs 300 crore during the contract period the company has estimated.

Though the company had been negotiating before the September 11 events in the US, the contract was finalised after the developments took place, said a company spokesperson.

The company would initially service in-bound calls from potential US customers with its capacity of 180 seats and with about 360 call service representatives which is proposed to be increased gradually during the period of the contract.

The call centre would be operated from the company's offshore development centre at Bangalore. Presently, the company has a seat capacity of around 600 for its call centre operations.

Hinduja TMT has set itself a target of setting up between 2,000 to 3,000 seats over the next few years with the aim of becoming a significant player in the call centre business. The company has already been servicing claim processing business for a Fortune 500 company as per their quality standards.

"India's exports of IT-enabled services to north America is expected to grow over 15 times in the next five years. Exports are expected to touch $4 billion by 2005. With its experience and focus, HTMT is well poised to exploit this opportunity, said S Solomon Raj, vice-chairman, HTMT in a press statement.

Hinduja TMT has made IT-enabled services as its thrust area in its new business model based on the recommendations by consulting firm Accenture.
