Intex aims at Rs 2,000-cr revenues next fiscal
The 17-year-old company had increased its revenues from Rs 32 cr in 2001-02 to Rs 783 cr in FY11

Intex Technologies, a New Delhi-based manufacturer of computer peripherals, mobile phones and consumer electronics, is aiming at garnering revenues of Rs 2,000 crore during the next financial year, primarily on the back of its focus on mobile phones business.
The 17-year-old company had increased its revenues from Rs 32 crore in 2001-02 to Rs 783 crore in FY11, and is targeting to cross the Rs 1,000-crore mark this year.
“Mobile phones is the fastest growing category for us, which we have been focusing on since a year. It should be adding anywhere between Rs 300 crore and Rs 350 crore to our revenues this year, and Rs 1,000 crore in the next,” Narendra Bansal, managing director of Intex, told Business Standard.
The company has 250 products, including 10 smartphone, 20 feature phone and five tablet models, in the price range of Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000. With the mobile grey market slowing down courtesy the government crackdown, and spurred by the demand for Android-based handsets, Bansal said the company was buoyant on sales volumes and would add five smartphone models to its current portfolio in three to six months from now.
According to him, the company is in the process of foraying into inverters, anti-virus software and automotive batteries within the next six months. This is expected to contribute around Rs 400 crore to its overall revenues in the next financial year.
To open 20 Intex Squares in south
Intex, which made a debut in the small format retail segment in September 2009 by launching its exclusive retail chain ‘Intex Square’ and operates 70 such stores across the country, will open 20 outlets in the four southern states, including five in Andhra Pradesh, next year.
“Each of the stores will entail an investment of Rs 1 crore (including inventory), and offer 60-70 products,” Bansal said.
