Jupiter Group celebrates 20th anniversary

Hyderabad-based Jupiter Group, a market leader in development and manufacture of peptide products, felicitated distinguished scientists, Goverdhan Mehta, former director of the Indian Institute of Science, and Tangirala Ramasarma of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting & Diagnostics, here on Monday.

The felicitation was done as part of the group's 20th anniversary celebrations. The citations were presented by Sujit Kumar Bhattacharya, director, National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, and officer-in-charge, ICMR Virus Unit, Kolkata.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkat R Kalavakolanu, chairman and managing director, Jupiter Group, said, "The group has been poised at a unique position in the peptide value chain and is striving to provide the entire spectrum of peptide-based molecules."

The group plans to award Rs 50,000 to the best PhD work from the state from next year, Kalavakolanu added.

Jupiter Group, established about two decades ago, has diversified into areas such as peptide chemistry, chiral chemistry and biotechnology and works through its subsidiaries, Jupiter Bioscience Limited and Sven Genetech Limited. The group made a total turnover of about Rs 84 crore in the fiscal 2004-05.
