Kamat, Hyatt hotels head to Gujarat

Hotel bigwigs Kamat Hotels and Grand Hyatt are making headway into Gujarat as the two groups have lined up investments in hospitality space in parts of Gujarat.
Kamat Hotels Ltd, promoted by Vithal V Kamat is planning to develop heritage hotels, restaurants and 4-star, 5-star hotels in Gujarat over next 2-3 years. “We will set up hotels having room capacity ranging from 40-80 rooms. We are also keen on developing restaurant chain in Gujarat with nine units proposed at present, besides heritage hotels & resorts,” said Kamat, who was in Ahmedabad to attend an industry seminar on Monday.
Kamat Group has four heritage hotels across country and is in talks with the Government of Gujarat to take up one more in the state. According to Kamat, the group is looking at setting up restaurant chains across the highway stretch between Vapi and Kutchh. Kamat noted that a typical restaurant will require an investment outlay of Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2 crore, while the hotel project would require minimum investment of Rs 20-25 crore for a 4-star property. Another leading hospitality group, Saraf Hotels that operates under the brand, Grand Hyatt will also come up with a five star hotel in Ahmedabad with an estimated investment of Rs 400 crore. Amit Saraf from Saraf Hotels informed that the hotel project at Ahmedabad is spread on 2 acres of land and would have a capacity of 300 rooms.
