Leyland sales up 35 per cent

BS Reporter Chennai
Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group, has closed the year ended March 31, 2007, with an all-time high sales of 83,101 vehicles. This represents a 35 per cent growth over the sales figure of 61,655 vehicles in 2005-06, said a company release.

Sales in the domestic medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) segment touched 76,741, registering a 37 per cent growth over the fiscal 2006. Exports volumes were also up 23 per cent at 6,025 vehicles in the fiscal 2007, from 4,879 units in the previous year.

These annual numbers were helped by the overall buoyancy of the economy and industry and a robust growth in the MAV (multi-axle vehicles) and tractor-trailer segments, which have long been Ashok Leyland's strongholds.
