Maruti Omni to replace taxis on Indore roads

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Indore
Maruti Udyog is going to be benefited as 550 Maruti Omni vans would ply on Indore city roads in place of tempos.

The transportation department had organised an open discussion near the divisional commissioner's office at Indore to invite tempo operators' suggestions on the Supreme Court's verdict to replace tempos by Omni vans.

The divisional commissioner, Ashok Das, IG Dr Shailendra Shrivastava, ADM Ramesh Bhandari, RTO JM Pathak, MLA Ashwin Joshi, former DIG Vijay Agnihotri, DSP traffic, Devendra Patidar, divisional traffic committee member, Jagatnarayan Joshi and others were present at the occasion.

The divisional commissioner Das, in his address, laid emphasis on a transparent and mutual discussion over plying of Omni vans in the city and appealed the operators to openly forward their suggestions.

Notably, the discussions gave a platform to tempo operators to place their demands and suggestions directly before the administrative and Traffic Police officials and have a transparent decision over this mode of public transport.

A large number of tempo, taxi and Nagar Seva operators participated in the symposium.

Addressing the occasion, Tempo Union secretary Nand Kishore Chokse said the administration should strictly stop vehicles plying without permit. He said that the rear side of Omni van should be transparent.
