The Rs 200-cr JV expected to boost leisure tourism

The work for the proposed five star hotel by Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group in Guwahati is expected to start soon as the company is in possession of almost all the approvals and clearances. The Rs 200-crore hotel would be the first five star hotel in the North-East and would be a joint venture between DS Group and Guwahati Municipal Development Authority Limited (GMDA).

A senior official from DS Group informed that both the parties had finalised all the agreements and final talks were on with the builder for the construction to begin. A joint venture agreement between DS Group and GMDA was signed in 2007, according to which, DS Group was to invest Rs 100 crore and develop the hotel on a 27 bigha land on the outskirts of Guwahati. "We have already done the soil testing and the blue print of the hotel is ready," he said.

He added that the company was in the "final stage" of negotiations with the builder.

"As soon as we settle everything with the builder, the work should start," the official said, though he could not give any time frame for the hotel to open.

The official could not say what would be the equity participation of DS Group and GMDA and the details regarding the hotel such as the accommodation capacity, number of rooms, facilities and so on. A senior official from Delhi had earlier told Business Standard that both the parties would have 50:50 partnership in the joint venture and that the hotel would come up within a span of 18 months.
