Nirvana Biosys to start contract farming for wine production

Nirvana Biosys, an upcoming winery in Haryana near Chandigarh, plans to start contract farming with the horticulturists in the north to source good quality fruits for the production of wine.
The company has set up its winery at the cost of Rs 14 crore having a capacity of 1 million litre per annum.
“We would need 30,000 tonnes of fruit (Mango, lychee and grapes) per annum to utilise full capacity and prefer to source it from the northern states”, said M K Rustagi, joint managing director of the company.
The wine manufacturing company has announced the introduction of its new range of wines in Chandigarh. The wine-maker has launched a range of products under its flagship brand LUCA across Chandigarh.
Nirvana Biosys is a joint venture company between E C Oxenham & CY Ltd, Mauritius, having a 75 year heritage of wine-making with a French lineage and a group of Indian promoters. The foreign partner has a 10 per cent equity stake. Under the joint venture, all products and brands in the E C Oxenham portfolio are available to Nirvana Biosys for production and marketing under the foreign partner’s supervision. The joint venture will also be introducing a range of red, white, sparkling, port, lychee wines for Indian and international markets by mid December, 2010.

Nirvana Biosys is committed to bring about a change in drinking habits from hard alcohol to wine, which has immense medical benefits when consumed in moderation. Apart from grape wine, the company would also introduce Lychee and Mango wine which would help in bringing a revolution in farm sector.
The wine-maker started its product distribution from the northern part of the country and has already made its presence felt in Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. To reach out to wider areas, Nirvana Biosys is in the process of expanding its networks in a phased manner. Within a month, the company will spread its wings to other important markets like Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, followed by West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Goa in another two months.
The company has manufactured 80,000 litres of win already produced in two batches in last three months. The market in West Asia is the first export destination and the company exported one container to Dubai recently.
Nirvana Biosys has recently set up a winery the first in North India in Haryana on NH-8 to Jaipur, 80 Kms from Delhi. The most modern model of winery has been set up on two acres of land with state of the art plant and equipments, having a capacity of 1 million litres per annum, expandable to 10 million litres per annum.
The company expects a turnover of Rs 25 crore in two years for both domestic and export business.
