Acting on the closure notice slapped by the Orissa State Pollution Control Board, the authorities of Kaniha plant of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) have shut down one of the four 500 MW units of the stage-II of this 3000 MW super thermal station.
On June 28, OSPCB had asked NTPC to shut down its four units of 500 MW each for failure to implement ash management system.
NTPC intimated to OSPCB that it has shut down one unit of its stage-II complex last night. There are two 500 MW units in its first stage.
The Angul district collector S. Mishra had taken up the matter with NTPC authorities following the closure notice.
As per law, the collector is to ensure the closure. The closure order is seen by the power major as a major set back.
